Not only did Hutchison agree to sell off its Panama concession, it sold 80% of Hutchison Port Holdings, granting a BlackRock-led consortium controlling interests in 34 ports outside of China and HK. First US move to own major overseas port concessions.

So just from a verbal threat, panama forced a HK Company to sell unit that manages multiple ports to BlackRock.... Probably at pennies on the dollar
There must have been some hard blackmail or otherwise why would they sell the entire Hutchinson unit instead of just those ports in Panama
The Chinese govt should have stepped in.
I don't think the chinese govt gives a shit about the private company CK hutchison based in HK, not sure why some ppl treat this as a China lose lol. If anything destroying CK hutchison is good, those guys did jack shit for China while monopolizing major sectors in HK.

I think the deal was already in the making for a while. You don't put a 20bn deal together in few month months. The only question is whether the 2 panama ports were part of the original deal or got added last minute because of Trump.
