I second that. In fact I would go a step further. A family of 4 in any average middle-class town would struggle if its household income was below 100K, not just on west coast or in New England. Costs of living in "American dream" have been inflated along with the fiat monetary system in the past decades.

It’s just a simpson’s paradox: high cost of living states have more 100K earners as a relative share of the population but most 100K earners do not live in high cost of living states (and even ignoring the cost of living silliness where the costs are largely the same across metro areas outside of housing costs, which are a moot point for high income families since they pay fixed rate mortgages).
