The chip and trade war is a metaphor.
To America and the west, it represents preserving their undisputed power and monopoly over the technology of modernity. Since they are a Judeo Christian Manichaean values society, they cannot tolerate an equal or superior society.
For China, it was inevitable that the potential of 1.4bln chinese of the oldest living civilisation was going to translate into innovation and tech advancement.
The anglos cannot abide by this, so their only recourse is a racial holy war to reaffirm their notion of white supremacy.

Finally, someone, here, that actually understands white supremacy and its ultimate expression!
Unfortunately, I don’t believe that the CPC, locked, as it is, in an historical-materialist mindset, can appreciate the symbolic nature and significance of this ideology. If they could, they’d understand that the existence of the State of Israel and control of the City of Jerusalem are the contemporary keys to the myth/fallacy of white-supremacy. Establishing the State of Israel was the final imperial act of the dying British Empire; as long as the State of Israel exists, the British Empire, and its basis in white-supremacy is legitimated. And, the City Jerusalem is the key to the legitimacy of Euro-Judeo-Christian myth system, the ”religion” upon which white-supremacy is based.
As such, the only “rational” response to any western intervention into the Chinese internal issue would be to terminate the State of Israel, permanently! No Euro-State of Israel controlling Jerusalem, no re-building of any temple, no return of any white-messiah, no hope for a white-supremacist future, no basis of faith in the future, no cohesive basis for “white” society; Check-mate! Oh, imagine the surprise, shock, and horror, when the U. S. and “Five-eyes” armada deployed to defend “Taiwan”, from Chinese “aggression“, is met with stoic silence, as Tel Aviv/Haifa is rendered a sea of glass!

Unfortunately, I don’t believe that the CPC, locked, as it is, in an historical-materialist mindset, can appreciate the symbolic nature and significance of this ideology. If they could, they’d understand that the existence of the State of Israel and control of the City of Jerusalem are the contemporary keys to the myth/fallacy of white-supremacy. I think any strategy based on attacking others is less likely to succeed than the proven methods of holding ground and grinding down the enemy economically.

Taiwan is to China what West Germany was to America. The enemy will threaten to invade through there many times. The majority of resources will be spend guarding it. Fiction writers and think tankers all believe it is just a matter of time until American forces storm into the area, like how they believed Soviets would come through the Fulda gap.

But as long as China doesn't show weakness, it's America that's on a timer to make something happen.

The war in Ukraine proved the long theorized point that NATO economies are vastly overvalued. The non-US members are supposed to have a cumulative GDP almost as high as China's, but in practice, their punching weight seems to be more along the size of Russia. That means, in terms of economic power, China may in fact have surpassed all NATO already, or will do so within a few years.

At the end of the day, US has nukes, so a total defeat can't be inflicted on them. Rather, China needs to keep applying pressure by forcing America out of markets, keeping industrial dominance and take, maintain geopolitical control over resource rich countries.

Eventually, this will lead to a Gorbachev moment for America, where most US client states simply leave America's side, rendering them irrelevant. You can already see a preview of this in the middle east.

If you're saying it's about managing expectations, then what you're really saying is everything is a propaganda show.

Why use the term managing expectations when what you mean it is all a propaganda show?

In this case, not sure who you are accusing of doing the propaganda show. IMHO, neither side is doing any of that between the EU and China.

It is pretty clear at this point, what each side wants, and how each side views the other.


IMHO the key to understanding Europe and China relations is what they want from each other, and how they view each other. And all that rests on there are three Europes.

One Europe does not want to see, its interests in Africa overrun by China. Fine, China and France can come to some sort of understanding.

Another Europe does not want to see it business profits disappear. Fine, China and Germany can just continue doing what they are doing, as long as they understand each other.

The rest of Europe, the third part collectively speaking, have a non-China policy as its China policy, which means two things. 1) They will be largely ignored. 2) They will not be able to execute their contradictory non-China policy as its China policy.

Contrast the third Europe, who cannot execute their non-existent China policy, with the other two Europes who will implement and execute their China policy.

The prime examples of the third Europe, really are England, Netherlands, and Poland. After ties soured between England and China, no more talk about London being a RMB trading hub. People have moved on. Netherlands outside of ASML, not sure what they can offer. Kind of like last chance for them for their China policy. Poland has a good trading relationship with China. That is about it, if they can find a better source, the all the best to them.

China is satisfied enough with it relations with the three Europes.

Two out of three parts of Europe is satisfied enough with it relations with China.

That third part of Europe is not satisfied, because they might not have any relevance left anymore, and they cannot get the two other parts of Europe with deep interests and relevance to be on the same page.
