Nothing wrong with that?
Onboard of dutch warships the Engine rooms look the same after using it that much (i.e 20 years plus).

PACIFIC OCEAN (April 25, 2008) Machinist's Mate Fireman David Mayfield, of Houston, practices a boiler light-off in the two main machinery room aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). The ship's boilers reach temperatures of more than 500 degrees Fahrenheit to produce steam for the ship's propulsion and auxiliary power. Kitty Hawk is on its last spring deployment before she is replaced by the USS George Washington (CVN 73). Kitty Hawk operates from Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan. Now that's what I am talking about, age of equipment other then efficiency should not be a factor. Remember the toilet which is the dirtiest room in a house should be the cleanest because it reflects on the occupants life style and this analogy can applied to any organisational set up.were you referring to the previous post?
Anyway this is how the 47 year old firerooms aboard USS Kitty Hawk looked just prior to her being retired;
Forty-seven years old...
A bit off topic; though I don't know how boilers work but the flame ignitor reminds me the ignitor of a gas cooker. A gas cooker ignitor look somehow like a gun. You pull the trigger and it throw a spark that would ignit the gas cooker. My question; why the big flame? The flame might be dangerous to the crew as well (that's why he need the suit).were you referring to the previous post?

It is an oversized colonscope.I saw this photo on sina military channel;
This PLAN shipmate is lighting a boiler aboard CV-16. The boiler room/main machinery space is very clean & well maintained. To me as an old salt he's missing his safety gear.
That is correct , There are different type of boiler, Induced draft, draft, atmospheric, balance draft Boiler. Without knowing the detail of boiler it is hard to make judgement.
If it induced draft fan then theoretically the pressure inside the boiler is less than atmospheric,reducing chance of blowback. Operating crew are forced to use Nomex and face shield because of OSHA requirement.
Not trying to defend the practice but China doesn't have strict OSHA regulation yet or it is not enforced
