Zhuhai Airshow and other Defense exhibition

From the pics of the SY-400, looks like it has thrust vectoring and is vertically launched. The photo showed a window on the side nose section of the missile, so it may be opto-electronic in guidance. I wonder if they can keep the costs down, perhaps by having high commonality with a mass-produced naval SAM. So the role would be what? Precision, quick reaction artillery strikes with range less than 100km? Something like a competitor to the "dumber" WS series, from a different manufacturer. A precision, much smaller warhead (compared to a large diameter rocket), quick reaction, longer range (compared to Krasnopol) artillery piece.

I wouldn't look at the window too deeply. It's most likely just for showing potential customers the seeker arrangement. In airshows, you often see static display of engines having transparent casing too, but that doesn't mean they are going to build an actual engine with transparent materials.

All I have to say about the FL-3000N... *stunned*

I've always expected something similar to the RAM, like the FLS-1. But this is... shocking.

Well, they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. ;p

If this system is put into production, it'd be an interesting upgrade to existing LY-60N & HQ-7 SAM systems. I think none of the PLAN frigates carry missile reloads, so installing just 1 x 24-cell system will greatly multiply the number of rounds carried. With 2 systems, it'd provide 360-degree coverage.

The People's Liberation Army Air Force personnel walk past two Chengdu J-10 fighting Falcoon Sinofighter jets one day before the opening of the 7th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition, or Airshow China 2008, in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai November 3, 2008. About 600 exhibitors with more than 60 aircraft, representing 35 countries and regions, have registered to take part in the show

Yes I agree the window is probably for the airshow. But then, what is the guidance mechanism? Why have a window there if there is not some sensor (radar?) for terminal guidance?

C-705 may be half the size of YJ-602
would be interesting but I don't think that's the case. The missile shown in the 'new' Zhuhai photos closely matches one of the missiles shown leaving a C-602 tube in large posters at previous shows. As per my earlier comments I previously identified that some of the photos and models had "+" configuration tail fins whereas others had "X". The "+" was on the models and at least one photo of a launch - with the exact same paint scheme and tubes as the "X" config. Hence the debate. Interestingly the artwork of the cruise missile in the first post shows a "+" config.

But, and this is going to shoot my 'proof' down in flames, if you look carefully at the second C-705 photo in the first post you'll note that the name is written upside down and/or the air intake is on the top!!!. These are just models and the guys assembling them can easily put them together wrong, it happens a lot at Chinese defence shows.
