This thing is similar to the Royal Navy's CAMM-ER, which also has a 40km range and quad-packed in VLS. However, it is 10 km short of ESSM's range. Not sure how significant this 10km being "out-sticked" would be.
Range is not the missile range itself but the fire control radar. 70km maximum range detection, with 40km slant range. Slant range is a term often used with radar sets.
I don't really know how effective the ESSM is at 50km though. The range where you have the highest PK tend to be well shorter than the maximum range.
