There has been no shortage of strange, even outlandish, designs even in the past exhibitions - many of the Chinese participants are not companies but institutes, ie. establishments or bodies with strong official ties...think of this expo like science fair in elementary schools if you may (that's the closest comparison I can make), this is the time to showcase their projects and/or progress to secure future fundings, if not the survival of the institute itself.

Of course, major players aiming for export markets, hopefully it'd lead to orders from PLA.
