How do we know that is for L15? that seems like a bit too much power for L15. Current ukrainian engines develop either 3 or 4,2 kgf of thrust, depending on which variant is actually installed and i am not too sure about that.

for comparison, m346 weighs 4,6 tons and its engines are rated 2,85 kgf each.
yak130 weight also 4,6 tons and its engines are rated 2,5 kgf each.

l15 seems to be in the same weight class. while i guess it is possible it is using the 4,2 kgf variant of al-222 engines, that is still less than 5 kgf advertised here. I am not saying that is impossible, but i would suggest such thrust would be indicative of a new version that probably doesn't have anything to do with training roles but is more akin to a proper (albeit very small) combat aircraft. Even the 4,2 kgf thrust version is overpowered for a trainer. Perhaps that is why Progress developed the smaller afterburner version of al222 with 3 kgf of thrust. Maybe we will see both planes in service. JL10, a trainer with 3 kgf thrust engines, and combat plane for export, based on L15, with this new engine. And until it is ready, ukrainian 4,2 kgf engines will do nicely.

L-15 is precisely make into a combat aircraft. It is part of china master plan to make an all for one combat jet that included training, combat and multi role with the comfort of an extra WSO to reduce main pilot work load and increase efficiency of dogfighting for country with limited budget and ease of maintenance.

Imagine for small country to just maintain a single type of plane that can easily provided training of pilot while at the same time Press into combat of intercepting and bombing mission too? That not only save cost, ease of training of extra crew just to maintain different type of aircraft. Logistic is also simplify with just one type of aircraft. This plane is ideal for small country with limited budget while at the same time needed to upgrade their combat readiness quickly.

escobar, the "81st" actually should be 8-1 or simply August 1st. August 1st was the date the PLA was founded years ago. It's PLA day, or 八一建军节,with八一being 8 and 1 respectively in Chinese characters...八一 look familiar, don't they? Think of what's on the J-20's tail fins.
