The yellow drum is a fuel tank. I still cannot understand why they must put the fuel tank inside the cabin. It is a potential fire hazard to those sitting inside the cabin.

Drop tank on the external store stub is safer and free up cabin space for more cargo and troops.

I must say PLA Army Aviation are doing a lot of confusing stuff, not only these things.
As I understand they're not very experienced considering how fast they grow, and lack some real combat experience. A lot of hard lessons can only be learned in the real battle field, not training ground.

Surely you are not suggesting PLA should go to war to gain real combat experience?

What kind of logic is this? Exactly where would the PLA get battle experience? There's so much wrong with this single post.

Whenever someone say "hard lessons can only be learned in the real battle field" they should specify exactly what lesson that is.

My guess is that it is not a big issue as it could be used just for ferrying , training, or emptied first. Crashing in the beginning of flight could be an issue, but one would expect that the tanks to be resistance to a certain level of damage.

And let's be honest. the Black Hawk is actually one of the nicest looking military choppers out there.

Certainly no.
It's just kinda symbol of a 'modern-looking military helicopter', even when it isn't that much newer than mi-8(which looks cold warish even with a pointy nose).
