My gut feeling is Reuters added their own interpretation with the injection of "what China considers its territory in the disputed South China Sea". I recall China and Vietnam has officially settled on boundary lines in the the Gulf of Tonkin so enforcement of Hainan's waters is fully justified. Not unless Reuters somehow has access to the full text of regulations which has yet to be released to the public.

Most likely the case, actually trying to enforce this on the entire 9 dotted line against foreign ships would be...well it wouldn't go well for China when the next US carrier group passed through.

Just like how Japan and Philippine boarded Chinese fishing vessel? I don't see you worry about "escalation" when that happened few years ago.

Because trying to board or harass an American carrier group passing through the area without China's permission is not a huge escalation?

WOW, are you serious? When did US got involved? And do you ever think there is a any remote chance Chinese ship will go anywhere near US carrier?

We are talking about Philippines, Japan ship boarding Chinese ship and arrest it is crews like they have done for the past few years. Why are you not worried "escalation" when it is being done to the Chinese? But rather worry about "escalation" when China wants to do the same to others.

Seriously man, the world does not revolve around USA.

Look at what I wrote before, I said exactly what you said, that the more likely interpretation is that these are targeted at the other claimants in the area, rather than the US.

That said it can be interpreted to include US ships, which is why i said potentially

Seriously you are being way too defensive. If you have a chip on your shoulder let it go, calm down.

LOL ask me to calm down instead of discussing the topic, I guess you got no fuel left.

Let me ask you again, do you think it was a "escalation" when Philippine and Japan stopped Chinese ship and arrest their crew?

So is that only the "evil Chinese" doing it it is an "escalation", when everyone else can do whatever it wants = defending their right?

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines is still asking China to withdraw three ships from a disputed shoal in the South China Sea almost six months after it promised to pull out, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said Thursday, November 29.

Del Rosario said that while the Philippines withdrew its own ships from Scarborough Shoal on June 4, as agreed by both countries, China's three government ships remained in the area.

I think Xi's showed his hand already when the government announced that the SCS will be actively reinforced.

The Filipinos might want to make plans to redirect their exports elsewhere.

I consider the reaction out of line with the action considering the status quo has been Japanese and Filipino administrative control of those respective areas. Arresting Chinese fisherman isn't even without precedent, and China does the same thing to other country's fishermen. It's not like China hasn't dealt with this before.

The only thing that's changed is China has a bigger stick and is also more willing to use it.

And now we have an expansion of powers for an area that is vaguely defined at this point (does China consider the entire SCS its territorial waters, or is this expansion just a 12 mile territorial limit for undisputed Hainan territory, or is it somewhere in between?)

Also you are the only one who has been saying evil Chinese, not me. Again stop being so defensive and assuming I believe China is the source of all evil just because I have different opinions than you.
