Re: Worlds Armed Forces Pictures III

Well the gun in question is the 152mm 2A65 MSTA-B which is the same gun as in the 2S19 SP gun. Its the last serieproduction towed artillery piece of this range which came from the Soviet Union.

There are few interesting things in the picture.

First is that there is apparently two sights fitted. The standart angle-sight which is used when firing over-the-horizon (which we called KKP) and the straight aiming-sight which is used for anti-tank and other direct firings. What is unusal is that the both sights are fitted at the same time. To me its interesting that those sights are identical to the ones we used with D-30s so I guess the soviets used same sights with all of the their artillery pieces. Well why wouldn't they, those sights are accurate and simple as hell. If you look the last picture, where the guy aims the BM-21 Grad 122mm MRLs, you can see the same angle-sight.

Seccond interesting feature is the white string or line which is attached to the gun. Thats the "remote-tricker" eg. the string is linked to the firing nob and the gun is fired from the distance. This was standart practice when fired at the first time from your fire position. Also if you notice that there is a wooden frames over the tubes. Those are restrictors, made that the gun could be fired only to one narrow, safe direction. We didn't use that sort of restrictions but the standart restrictor which was attached to the aiming devices. We set the paramets to the restrictor and you were unable to aim the gun to wrong directions. Also unfortunetly the guys wares no earprotection...poor buggers:(
