Note the commandos seem too have gotten a upgrade in fire power in the form of a modern M4A1 with Acog and Anpeq2 as well as M24 sniper rifle.

Re: Argentine Armed Forces

The "meaner" looking pucara was definately the IA-58C variant.
In this film still the Charlie is taking off with a laser guided missile, I have no idea what that is. Close up to the nose, the protruding barrel belongs to a 30 mm DEFA 553 revolver gun, this shoot about 1800rpm. One of the starbord 7,62mm MG was deleted in order to acomodate the French weapon.

I have no confirmation if this conceptual plan was actually kicked around as a feasible option. Needless to say I would love to see this one in production.

I think Argentina and Brazil are going on the path of integration, UNASUL, should be the base of the United South American Union, and this will imply sooner or later a common currency, and a common army in a similar way to Europe.

the Brazilian project C390 reflects that you need common programs, more common aircraft programs and common share of risks.

In 2011 you can not compete alone, only united Argentina can develop a strong industry once again in fact selliing your technology is south america should be the first priority, PAUNY has a common project with Venezuela to build tractors there, i think politically Mexico is too far away to have an important role in South America, but united you can do a lot in terms of technology.

Re: Argentine Armed Forces

Agreed, a lot of money was poured into the Argentine arms industry during the 1970’s and early 1980’s. The result was the Pucara, the Pampa, the TAM, VCTP, etc…
However those days are long gone. A consortium similar to what produced the AMX (Italy and Brazil), the Alpha jet (Germany and France), the euro-fighter, will have to take place between Brazil, Argentina and any other south American, or Latin country that wants to join.

I think Argentina, Chile and Brazil are the real technological powers in South America, Argentina however has a small population barely 40 million people, it is not a problem if you are well developed, however these days you need markets.

I know you are able to design and build lots of things from radars, satellites, cars, airplanes, tractors and you have a better agriculture than Mexico, i think you have the ability to develop with Brazil and Chile enough products to compete, the problem of Mexico is we are competing already with two Giants, USA and China but we were in one way not ready to do it our agriculture has basicly collapsed, however our industry has relatively develop a bit, but i think we have not developed the economy well, we need more science and technology developed in Mexico and more by Mexican firms.

Brazil has a much smarter policy and Argentina needs in my opinion cotinue developing technology but sharing risks with Brazil and commercializing togather as Europe does, in reality South America can develop even more, you can develop the latin markets even higher.

Mexico needs to really stop thinking foreign investment is the only solution to our problems and start developing our own firms with their own technology.

We have very small electronic industry but already is designing for IBM and other companies and airplane and car design is the same.

As you know developing your arms forces first means developing your own technology and economy first.

I like Brazil`s Embraer because they sell first and later build weapons, a smarter policy, the problem of Argentina was you developed aircraft that were very expensive and could not be sold on the international markets.

But i am sure South America united will be better off and economically and in resoruces you will be able to fare better, you have the technology you just need the economic boost to sell and later supply with your own aircraft.

techology that shows why argentina still has a better agriculture than Mexico, we do not develop any tractor these days we just develop very simple automated ploughs but still not as advanced as Brazil or Argentina
