interesting, but still an impossibility, the West will remain the dominant for in the world for most of the century, niether China or Russia will be able to compete with the EU-USA lead world and believe me is not something i like or dislike, it simply my opinion NATO is still the strongest force in the world and the USA-EU commerce still is the main trade block.

Having J-20s or J-10s or PAK FA does not matter for the West, their economy still the most powerful block and NATO has F-35s, F-22, Rafales, Typhoons at its disposal, the West is still the facto dominant force in the world.

English will remain still as a dominat language due to simplicity in writing and the cultural power of Holywood

NATO's survival as an organization is not guaranteed. Neither is the EU's, nor a strong EU-US relationship. A lot can change very quickly. If we're talking economy here, there's a chance that China overtake the US and the EU especially given recent developments (though in my opinion this is still just a setback, and not a sign of total collapse).

Latin remained the dominant language in Europe for science and diplomacy until a thousand years after the fall of the West Roman empire. English replaced French as the language of diplomacy since WWII. Chinese might be the dominant language I think not earlier than 2100, even if the US economy doesn't revive.

this is my last reply regarding english language, this is a J-10 thread so i do not want to derail it, if you want to discuss it we can open another thread, but the main reason Chinese is not going to replace any time soon english is not because Chinese language is more difficult, but simply as Japanese ideograms (Kanjies) have shown, learning chinese characters is pretty much a very complicated issue, most chinese do not known them all, nowadays, computers help but reading chinese is too much complicated, it does not compare to learn 29 letters, plus the West is not going down, it continues very alive, it is simply China and India are modernizing, but in no way they will replace the West.

The USA, Canada will eventualy merge and sooner or later the EU and USA will do the same.

In my opinion it will be important but it won`t replace English any time soon, maybe only in North Asia will replace English as little bit but it won`t replace it around the world

While I agree in general that Chinese will unlikely replace English, you should learn more about Chinese as a language before you make such erroneous statements. There are thousands of words that aren't used in the English language either (or any langage for that matter).

Also, as a student of political science I would caution against making such sure arguments on political integration. Anyways, you're right. This should be discussed in a separate thread.

On the other hand, I'm bilingual in both Chinese and English. The biggest hurdle to learning both languages isn't in the basic but advanced levels, where semantics and colloquialism dictate meaning.

I don't think so. English is embedded in modern international structures, and once there it has institutional inertia. This is much like how the Chinese writing system persisted in the East Asian region for thousands of years, or how Latin was the primary international language long after the fall of the Roman Empire.

In my opinion as a non chinese speaker, i feel the biggest hurdle for Chinese and Japanese to become international languages is Kanjies, I can speak Japanese at intermediate level, i can read some of it, but Japanese differs with Chinese in that it uses much less chinese characters, and uses two other sillabaries, i know most japanese can no read a lot of kanjies, if it was not by the fact Japanese can use computers these days, the Japanese would forget so many chinese characters, Chinese up to my knowledge only uses Chinese characters so it is even harder for a person who is not Chinese to learn it, so i do not think Chinese can rival English due to the fact it uses a writing system that requires so many years of learning, so as a language Chinese can not compete except probably in Asia in regions that have large chinese populations such as in Malasya.
