Yes he did. the USS Paul F. Foster DD-964. The Foster was chosen to be the USN test ship because it had the MK41 VLS and updated systems. But above all it was chosen because of it's superior material condition. The day before it was turned over to the Navy test center at Port Huneme the ship made 32 knots. Outstanding for a 26 year old ship.
Back to this ship. It is very intelligent of the PLAN to comission a test ship. Very smart indeed. The labratory and classrooms and computer models are great training tools. But a real ship with real sailors and weapons is the very best way to train and test weapons and sailors.

Thanks for the correction and info, I just start getting interest in military few month ago, so my knowlege is not that well. So when I make a mistake, please correct me.
It is a shame that all Spruances were taken out of active duty, quite a waste in my opinion of those fine ships. More should be sold to friendly nations rather than scrapped or used as target practice.
