Greetings All,

I've been following this site for years but I've never posted or shared anything until now. I founded this thread and I just wanted to add something....the Sukhoi Su-54, Su-55, and Su-56 single engine variant of the Su-27 Flanker. These were meant to be two seat trainer, lightweight fighter, and naval fighter variants of the Flanker. I don't believe a prototype was ever built but here are some line drawings and models that have made there way online over the years. Enjoy !!!

Greetings All,

Since I'm on a roll....thought I'd add another what if plane to the discussion. The Atlas Cheetah was always meant to be an interim designed, it is after all, a significant upgrade of the Mirage III. The replacement for a slew of South African Air Force types including the Blackburn Buccaneer, Mirage F-1, and finally the Cheetah was meant to be a new design known at the time as the Atlas Carver. Before it was formally cancelled by South African President de Klerk, a prototype was on the verge of being built. IMHO it probably wasn't going to be successful. South Africa lacked the expertise to design a suitable jet engine for the plane and while they did have a license to build the Snecma Atar 9k-50 turbojet which powered both the Mirage F-1 and Atlas Cheetah, the Carver was meant to be a far heavier, twin engine, multi role plane than either single engine the F-1 or Cheetah. Attached are some models and line drawings which shows the very definite Dassault influence on a design that bares more than a passing resemblance to the Mirage 4000.

Enjoy
