what do you want to know about PRC?

I will talk mostly of the South here.

What the, when did the AK get into this?

But yes, I like the one week training camp for the 10th graders. Get them into a better mental and physical shape. People are getting more spoiled there and they need to work more!

I actually prefer the Squat toliets over the sitting ones. It is the rest of the bathroom in China that I fear. In some cheap restaurants, the bathroom might be flooded(The floor has giant .5 cm deep puddles) and in the house, the whole darn bathroom itself is the toliet! There is little space for you to stand when you are washing your hands or washing yourself (*Shivers*)

Pollution is a giant problem in China and a lot of times, the government is helping to ruin the landscape! A number of tourist attractions have been ruined. (Anyone know the place near Chengdu that has a name similar to "the nine creeks"?)

Also, the local governments' compensation is usually not enough for those who are ordered to move out while they clear off the land. And now you see a lot of times riots/protests being formed by farmers because their land is being taken away. This is becoming common in GuangDong Province.

I know for a fact also that in China, men could not marry until 22 while women cannot do so until 18, I would guess that is a runner-up to the one-child policy that is more effective? (But why are there still people breaking this rule?)

Security in China has definitely not improved, at least in the South. My uncle who lives in Guangzhou says that safety has dropped since 1978 when China opened up. Pickpockets are everywhere. Then there are thieves with knives. And some people, desperate enough, will chase after you. Prostitution is another big problem.....

And kidnapped kids (usually 5-6) are doomed. The captors force them to make fake flower at day and sell them at night by whatever means.(Usually to couples, and the kids hold on to the women's leg to force them to buy them.) China could use some secret police now..... Just not searching for "political traitors"......

Water in China.......... right now in Guangzhou where I would visit, the water is much better than what it was 5 years ago. Apparently, China uses limestone to clean the water. (They could've used something like ozone, chlorine, or Hydrogen peroxide, which the latter is definitely abandunt in China. You often hear ezhos making fake foods in China with those......) Right now, the water taste like Kirkland for those who live in America, basically water w/ minerals added for "taste". *cough*disgust*cough*. But 5 years ago, the water tasted more like water that has been used for washing rice mixed with limestone, so the quality in chemical means have improved a lot. (Don't know about biological means though.)

There is also too much counterfeiting in China.......Foods(OMFG....) and stuffed items the most common. Hydrogen Peroxide is commonly used in the foods. But I have to say, I really admire the "hair-soy sauce". If that carcenagen wasn't there and people could accept the idea of hair sauce, it could've been really fine.

I don't understand the "you can own the house, but not the land" idea, though. So if you own the land, the government cannot tell you to move off, but if you own the house, but not the land, you can get a (apparently really tiny) compensaion while the government gets to blow your house to pieces?

I don't know what to say. I agree China could use some sex education. The fear is the reaction of the kids. (And you certainly don't want things to turn so bad, it'll end up like the current American Youth's music! Some songs makes me sick!)

But still, China has its good sides:
Very high potential in growth for business.
Cheap goods!
Good public transportation system. (Yes, I do like them. Especially the transportation card. You can tap it on most PT vehicles and the card pays. It's like an instant credit card for PT.)

Will, when I visited china in 2001(for the first time!). people who speaks english told me in south there was alot of drug trading to the vietnam, laos, cambodia.... Also they say ganngs have been very big in south those day(don't know about north)

The city i visited is called kumming or cumming (I think). If you go south of town, you will see a lot, i mean A LOT police and soldiers(military police?) search everything! our tour bus, even our bags! and they didn't even say sorry. people told me they are just searching for weopans and maybe drugs.

they told me one day, two drug trading gang members got out guns(hunting rifles) and start to shooting at the cops!!! (They later gor killed).

The main city kumming seems fine for me, but south, that is pretty messed up. :(

I have a custom question.
You guys know about the festival celebrating the renowned politician that died on May 5th of the Lunar calendar right? (Dragon Boat Fest?)

Do you guys know the name of those things that we eat?
(Or should I call them Chinese Tamales?)

Ok so heres another batch of questions
1.How often do chinese use chopsticks?Do they use spoons atleast sometimes?
2.Is it true that chinese name their children by throwing pots on the ground and naming their child by the sound that pot makes?
3.Is it true that chinese parents prefer having a boy as their only child?

more like outright stupidity.

While some may bring up the saying "there is no stupid question" in your defense, I would like to invoke the adage "there is always an exception to a rule".

1. Chopsticks are still very, very common in China. Unless you go to certain kinds of restaurants (i.e. French, Italian, fast-food, etc) you'll get a pair given to you. Spoons are sometimes given but more for drinking soup - they're not supposed to be a replacement for chopsticks.

2. There has been a tradition amongst some Chinese people like that, but I don't know how common it was even in years gone by. Today I do not think that it is the way most Chinese people name their children :)

3. This is a subject of debate. Some people maintain it's an old myth, but in some respects it is true. I have heard that by far the majority of (at least healthy) orphaned children in China are girls. Although girls are much more valued than they used to be, there are still a lot of people that feel they need to have a son. And it isn't just peasants. Baby/young boys have been kidnapped to be sold on to more wealthy couples.

There might be some tradition in minority but I doubt it is anything widespread.
