They are all nice pictures and all, but to be a wallpaper they usually need to fit the required screen resolution of modern monitors.

Exactly.. they should be a minimum of 1280 X 960..maybe 1024 X 768..but no smaller. All my wallpaper is large..just click the bar.

More information on the apparatus in this photo and Chrisler's acoustics work at the American Institute of Physics.

An acoustics researcher, he specialized in building acoustics and underwater sound. He acted as the acoustical consultant for the U.S. Capitol. In the 1920s he used the box in the picture to investigate several topics in building acoustics, including both the acoustics of “talking” motion pictures and those of the courtroom. In addition, Chrisler studied sound abatement in apartment buildings and in airplanes, and published texts and research monographs. He was a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a Fellow and Vice President of the Acoustical Society of America. He died in 1953, aged 68.

Chesapeake & Ohio M-1 steam turbine 502 at Cincinnati on July 2, 1949. These coal-fired turbine locomotives were complete failures in passenger service despite their impressive size and complexity. Built in 1947 by Baldwin Locomotive for exorbitant prices, all three were retired by 1950. Color of this engine, in case you're wondering, was yellow-orange up top with gray beneath, with dark blue lettering and trim.

There's an option on your computer where you can make the wallpaper smaller with less resolution to fit into your screen.
