Block out the sun? That is really irresponsible of them! What would happen to all the agriculture nations? Not all of them are nearly rich enough for any alternatives.

Not literally blocking out the sun, reducing the intensity of the rays. Granted this will still cause problems but it's not like a man-made eclipse.

The atmosphere right now w/ all the dust we have are already reducing the intensity somewhat. Global dimming is occuring at 2%/year from what I've read.

I would suggest geothermal power along with nuclear.
Earth is full of hot spots: Hawaii, Java, Iceland, New Zealand, Yellowstone, etc. You can use geothermal plants for energy here I am sure. (Though I wonder if it's too late for such in Yellowstone, she's gonna blow pretty soon.)

And for nuclear plants, use breeders, especially the CANDU, since it uses any thing nuclear, so you can throw in any type of warhead, regular rods. (It might seem like an irony, but we are reducing the world's nuclear weapons-piles -at the expense of creating them. :D) It's a breeder. People say you can't use the nuclear waste because it produces only gamma rays, but what you throw it in back into a breeder like a CANDU? It will turn back into fuel right?

(Is it possible to use gamma rays? What if you sandwich the block of waste with layers of lead and concrete and boron carbide and run water through it?)

One problem though, I don't think we can replace completely our need of burning fuels for electric ones. I find hydrogen cars dangerous, since if you crash it, you know...... I trust bio-diesel, especially in America's fast food nature... No one is going to want old frying oil, so I trust it to be a booming business. (Especially when it is required that restaurants throw out their frying oil.....daily, which is not going to happen.)
