PRT Zabul is comprised of Air Force, Army, Department of State, U.S. Agency for International Development, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers personnel who work with the government of Afghanistan to improve governance, stability, and development throughout the province.

Airmen deployed to Afghanistan load ammo onto A-10’s for missions

Fighters and Airborne Warning and Control aircraft from the United States and Russia participated in Vigilant Eagle 2011. The exercise marks the second year of cooperation between the Russian Federation and NORAD to counter possible threats of air terrorism crossing international boundaries.

Tank’s deadliest weapon: teamwork



COMBAT OUTPOST SHIR GHAZAY, Afghanistan - Marines with Alpha Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (Forward), exit a tank after returning from a 24-hour overwatch mission. Hours of sitting in a tank and providing overwatch in hot temperatures make it a challenge for the Marines to continuously stay alert. They combat the fatigue by talking to each other and constantly checking their sectors for any signs of unusual activity









COMBAT OUTPOST SHIR GHAZAY, Afghanistan - Lance Cpl. Richard Brown, a gunner with Alpha Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (Forward), ground guides a tank to a fueling station. The 25 year-old Brooklyn, N.Y., native is the second in command behind the tank commander. Brown is in charge of the overall maintenance of the tank and makes sure everything is in its correct position.




COMBAT OUTPOST SHIR GHAZAY, Afghanistan - Marines with Alpha Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (Forward), work through the night to conduct maintenance on a tank. The M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank is 70 tons of armored power and requires up to 10 hours of maintenance for every hour it is operating.




COMBAT OUTPOST SHIR GHAZAY, Afghanistan - A Marine with Alpha Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (Forward), ground guides a tank into a parking position. Accomplishing their missions and keeping a tank operable requires an extensive team effort. Everyone on the team has a specific job to do which affects the rest of the Marines in the tank
