COMBAT OUTPOST SHIR GHAZAY, Afghanistan - Marines with Alpha Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (Forward), exit a tank after returning from a 24-hour overwatch mission. Hours of sitting in a tank and providing overwatch in hot temperatures make it a challenge for the Marines to continuously stay alert. They combat the fatigue by talking to each other and constantly checking their sectors for any signs of unusual activity

COMBAT OUTPOST SHIR GHAZAY, Afghanistan - Lance Cpl. Richard Brown, a gunner with Alpha Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (Forward), ground guides a tank to a fueling station. The 25 year-old Brooklyn, N.Y., native is the second in command behind the tank commander. Brown is in charge of the overall maintenance of the tank and makes sure everything is in its correct position.
