US Marines conduct mechanized assault during Talisman Sabre 2011

TS11 is the largest joint military exercise undertaken by the Australian Defence Force. Around 14,000 U.S. and 9,000 Australian personnel will participate. TS11 provides an opportunity to conduct operations in a combined and joint environment that will increase both countries' bilateral war-fighting capabilities to respond to crisis and to provide humanitarian assistance. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and remains the nation's force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.

The soldiers utilized the Murai Urban Training Facility to conduct mobile operations in an urban environment. The soldiers dismounted Terrex Infantry Carrier Vehicles then continued with door-to-door reconnaissance. Lightning Strike, for the first time, was conducted simultaneously with the command post exercise Tiger Balm. The two military exercises are meant to allow the armies to become familiar with each other's techniques, tactics and procedures as well as foster cultural relations. This year the exercises are separate, but in the following years they will be combined and coordinated together into a larger more complex training scenario.

2011 USAREUR Best Warrior Competition

The competition is designed to test USAREUR Soldiers and noncommissioned officers from across Europe in their military knowledge, warrior skills and endurance. The competition is scheduled to run through July 28 with the final winners to be announced Aug 11.
