Straight up saying Russia and everyone elses upcoming next gen jets will only be on par with the US and China's fifth-generation fighters.
-OOF
Yep only the fanboys think UK, France, Russia ... lol
fcking Japan can produce 5th gen fighters of their own that can rival the US and Chinese ones. Just about everyone underestimates Chinese. They've been fed the koolaid for long enough it's to be expected and overall does work to China's advantage in all honesty. But on the other side of the misread spectrum, so many people overestimate European abilities in this field. They've invested basically nothing in high end MIC since the Cold War ended and the majority of European high end military technology is supplied by the US. Rafale's AESA underlying base is American. Gripen's engine and half its subsystems are American. Eurofighter avionics feature more American equipment than people realise, it should be called the Atlanticfighter.
They keep promoting investor scamming projects to get funding and the more prominent projects like FCAS, GCAP, DBAG and whatever other fancy powerpoint hype projects have been happening for as long as the American 5th gens were getting the untouchable treatment by online teenagers.
Russia's Su-57 reveals just how demanding it is to develop, produce and field a single 5th gen fighter. By their own admission and Indian revelations when India dropped out of the FGFA (Su-57 tandem seater joint type project), this fighter while beautiful, simply isn't as effective a 5th gen as the other 4.
The American military leadership know all the above very well and they're now even comfortable enough just stating it plainly. It's a
2 horse race between US and China. The others have been lapped many times over already. None of the European players on their own have the complete supply chain and comprehensive set of facilities, equipment and know how to produce a 5th gen fighter. They can and will get American support. Japan will need to harvest half of its nation or whats left of it just to militarise. Their car industry is getting nuked globally. Toyota is 2 steps away from bankruptcy if they don't scale back significantly. Their electronics industry is a zombie and basically a national token gesture now. Shipbuilding is like electronics industry, all taken by South Korea and China.
These nations will keep shuffling partners around but will end up like the FGFA or end up producing a 5.5 gen fighter with mostly American subsystems for more cost than American and Chinese 6th gen fighters and will likely become ready for service
after American and Chinese 6th gen fighters hit mass production... for 1.5x the cost of American 6th gen fighters and 3.5x the cost of Chinese 6th gen fighters.
BTW we should also consider that France, Germany and Japan are currently some of the most poor performing economies in the world and all three are in the process of de-industrialising due to a combination of end stage capitalism and their mainstay industries hitting the point of the cycle where their legacy engineers and products are in decline.
