And why did they use B-2 for attacks on ISIL? They needed 15 refuelings from tankers to do that mission. Couldn't they think something even more expencive?:rolleyes:

I really don't understand why couldn't they buy American gun?
They did!! ;)
IT's made by Sig in New hampshire. Infact most of Sig's Product line is made in the USA.
These days Sig is actually more of an American company sporting the name of a Swiss/German one. The original "SIG" is actually called SIG Sauer GmbH the American Arm is Sig Sauer Inc and has been since 2000. The Traditional SIG is called Swiss Arms.

Well yes, but on the other hand, the mere fact that US military uses SIG Sauer weapons ( never mind where are they produced ), is great advertising for their Swiss-German relatives. IMHO, far better to make advertising for Smith & Wesson.

oh It would be nice but Smith and Wesson Dropped out middle of last year.
that left FN Manufacturing USA ( Belgian Makes M249,M240,M4A1,M16A4) , HK(German, Makes MP7A1, MP5, HK416, M27, M110A1 CSASS, M320A1, HK45CT aka Mk24mod0, Mk23mod0 and is part of the team with ATK for XM25), Glock USA (Austrian used by SF teams), Beretta USA (Italian Makes M9 owns Benelli who makes M1014) , And Kriss USA ( Swiss)
The Current Us handgun that this would be replacing is the Beretta M9 as well as the Sig p228 designated M11

I know, but I'm saying that IMHO would be better for the USA to have S&W or some other American manufacturer of firearms chosen. The weapons itself are largely insignificant.

Again all these weapons have to be manufactured in the US for US DOD approval by the Berry amendment and companies that build them in the US are US owned subsidiaries, The weapons are trailed and compete based on performance and a bidding system. this means that as long as the product performs to spec meets the testing parameters, is made in the USA and the bid is the right price, It's fare game no matter if the company is a subsidiary from europe or a home grown.

While I like the idea of buying American, the weapon itself is quite significant, the Beretta 92 in 9mm, may not be enough gun in some situations, but it is a very fine reliable weapon if a little hefty in the grip area.

Side arms are exhaustively tested to be sure they are reliable, and function under very adverse conditions.

Having said that I do like the Smith M&P, in either 9mm or 40 cal.

Unlike civilian usage, the army also looks at ease of field stripping and maintenance. This pistol is much easier to strip and put back together than say the 1911. Also for some unexplained reason they are going for quantity over stopping power. Could also be standardization with NATO armies.
