According to the court documents, Navy commander Michael Vannak Khem Misiewicz passed confidential information on ship routes to Leonard Francis' Singapore-based company, Glenn Defense Marine Asia Ltd., or GDMA.

Misiewicz and Francis moved Navy vessels like chess pieces, diverting aircraft carriers, destroyers and other ships to Asian ports with lax oversight where Francis could inflate costs, the criminal complaint alleges. The firm overcharged the Navy millions for fuel, food and other services it provided, and invented tariffs by using phony port authorities, prosecutors say.

Misiewicz could have informed Francis about ship routes , but I doubt he was able to divert whole fleets - after all he is just a simple commander , not an admiral . Maybe he is just a scape goat for higher-ups .

Admiral's use trusted staffers like Misiewicz to do all of the grunt work and set up the schedules, and make recommendations. They then make decisions based on those recommendations. If Misiewicz was a trusted, long time individual being mentored, then this could easily have happened.

And yes, you can also bet, that any Admirals and their bosses are now under the microscope to ensure that there were no connections, and no influence through money or vice, that gravitated up to the Admrials themselves.

If there were, we will hear of it and they themselves will be cashiered an dpossibly prosecuted. Even if it is clear that they did nothing wrong themselves but should have known this was happening under them, their careers will be over.

The ought to keel haul them both (and anyone else caught up in this).

Then, if they survive that, they should get at least five times five years at hard labor.

This could easily have resulted in major intelligence compromises fo the Carrier Strike Group, and led to thousands of deaths in any breaking war time scenario.

Intolerable.

Too bas this Commander, whose life was changed so much for the good by his rescue from the Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge as a child, ultimately paid back all that good with this. Shameful and disgusting. And very dangerous. "Loose lips, sink ships."

Only 5 years for a $10 million fraud? The guy will walk out of prison a rich man.

Well, in fairness to NCSI, the five years is on the intial charge, "Conspiracy to commit Bribery." As the investigation continues, it is very likely that more charges will be filed (like the actual bribery), and those charges will carry stiffer penalties.

They used these charges at this stage because they wanted to get them behind bars and off the street, and I will bet because they feel they have a strong case in bringing those additional charges.

we shall see.

Navy SEALs ordered to remove ‘don’t tread on me’ Navy Jack from uniforms

The Navy Jack is the ‘don’t tread on me’ flag, one that has earned a revered place in America’s naval history and a beloved place in sailor’s hearts, through its use for over two centuries. This symbol of America’s naval ferocity has spanned our country’s entire existence, flying from the masts of the Continental Navy during the war of independence, to today’s War on Terror. In fact, an amendment to the Navy code called SECNAV Instruction 10520.6 clearly states that as of 31 May 2002 all ships are to fly the flag throughout the duration of the War on Terror.

So why would ranking SEAL commanders ban the historical symbol? Is the proverbial top bass banning the flag? Is President Obama? .......................................

Just curious where do the Navy put all of their bad boys and girls at? I know the Army put theirs in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.

Ft. Leavenworth is joint service prison.

pops the story is true the cause is misleading. The navy as we know wears the NWU navy work uniform in three versions blue man crew, wood dry land sailor, and desert special operations. Seals also wear everyone everywhere Multicam.
now Multicam, desert and woodland navy uniforms differ from the blue camo NWU the style is a more combat operations oriented type taking cues from the marine and army uniforms. One of this cues is that they have shoulder pockets, and on those pockets is Velcro. Navy special warfare a few years back like the army decided after actions in Iraq and the Stan to adopt a IR reflecting American IFF shoulder patch, as they were working with the contractor they cleared the stars and stripes for wear in garrison. Some where along the way NSW asked about the navy jack.the version of the don't tread on me flag worn by naval ships and bases. The plan was NSW wanted to wear a reversed style old glory on the right shoulder and the navy jack on the left covering the conveniently placed Velcro plates on the shoulders looking alot more ship shape and navy like then a open space of bare Velcro and the patches were worked to be camouflaged in the same pattern as the uniform. The contractor obliged but someone forgot to clear it with the admiralty. So someone eventuality pointed to the NSW and said that technically they were violating uniform wear regulations wearing this particular flag in garrison. The top enlisted chiefs had to send down the edict that this was a no no. Some where in this politically charged American nation of ours someone added one and one and got Obama.
anyway the flag is actually still flying and still being worn by NSW but in the training, Deployed and combat environment where it is authorized as for garrison its off until the secnav or navy board give the official thumbs up.

don't get me wrong I think Obama is a piss poor president setting a whole new low of mismanagement, his foreign policy plays are going to make the middle east a nightmare, his domestic policy is going to cost America a decade of set back, but although his military policy is two faced and dumb he's not such an arse to micromanage something so small as a 3.5 by 2 inch ir backed flag patched that really no one can see or does see that often.

World Maritime News said:
Huntington Ingalls Industries laid the keel for the future USS John Finn (DDG 113) during a ceremony at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Miss., Nov. 4.

The keel of DDG 113 was authenticated as being “straight and truly laid” by Laura Stavridis – the ship’s sponsor and wife of retired Admiral James Stavridis -and Bob Merchant, Vice President, Surface Combatants and U.S. Coast Guard Programs at HII.

“DDG 113 is the first ship of the Arleigh Burke class destroyer program restart,” said Capt. Mark Vandroff, DDG 51 class program manager, Program Executive Office (PEO) Ships. “This keel laying represents the beginning of John Finn and continues the proud tradition of this highly successful shipbuilding program. I was especially honored to have Admiral and Mrs. Stavridis joining us here today. Admiral Stavridis, a former commanding officer of the first Ingalls DDG 51, USS Barry, knows how the hard work of Ingalls’ shipbuilders produces great warships.”

The DDG 51 class ship is a multi-mission, guided-missile destroyer designed to operate in multi-threat air, surface and sub-surface threat environments. The DDG 51 program continues to reinforce affordability and efficiency in its shipbuilding program with a commitment to deliver ships at the highest possible quality to the fleet.

John Finn is the 29th DDG 51 class destroyer to be constructed by Ingalls and is the first ship of the DDG 51 program restart. The Navy currently has 13 Arleigh Burke class destroyers under contract, including the recent Fiscal Year 2013 – 2017 multi-year procurement of nine ships awarded to HII and General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in June 2013.

John Finn is expected to deliver to the Navy in 2016.

The contracts have already been let for all four of the Flight IIA Burke vessels in the Restart Progam. Two at Huntington Ingalls in Mississippi (113 and 114), and two at Bath Iron Works in Maine (115 and 116).

An option for a fifth vessel is part of that contract and it is expected that that vessel will be the 1st Flight III destroyer, funded in 2016. After that, current plans (which contracts have not been let yet) call for two more of those vessels in 2017 and two more in 2018. To be delivered in 2018 and 2019 respectfully.

That would mean a total of 40 Flight IIA vessels in service by 2019, and the first five Flight III Ticonderoga replacemens in place by 2019 too. Amazing stuff. At that point there will be 73 Burke Destroyers of one variety or another plowing the seas, with still more flight IIIs being built after that, seven or more.
