It is commonly believed that modern destroyers and supercarriers can be rendered completely incapacitated by a single advanced anti-ship missile strike. I wonder whether the Trump-class warship could withstand hypersonic missile attacks if equipped with thicker, multi-layered armor.
With the speed of a hypersonic missile along with the payload, absolutely not since no military structure in the world, especially in the west can ever be able to withstand one of those, especially if it hits dead on

It's more likely than not that the Trump class will undergo significant shifts in mission and quantity due to the reality of budgetary constraints and shipyard capacity. Nonetheless, it represents the sort of technological trajectory that the US Navy sees itself adopting as it gears itself for a high-intensity conflict with a near peer: very long range strike missiles, laser CIWS, and railguns. This is not too dissimilar to the "Type 055B" thought experiment that often takes place here on SDF.

Scale down the size, change the name, future-proof the hull, and you'd get a warship that outclasses anything in the PLAN and yet would still be within the capacity of US shipyards to build. In fact I'd expect a notional 055B or "Type 071 arsenal ship" to have a very similar layout.

There are already talks of a large Cruiser in the works, although it won't be as large as the BBG, it'll still probably be well over 20000t. Although It'll be a different role, being a very large air defense cruiser that is capable of midcourse ABM with very large X band radars.

Lol, are these clowns serious? Do they want to get in into a "battleship" race with China of all countries? Bring it on then. One could be quite sure one of those things will cost the americans at least 10 billion, possibly much more after the usual delays, redesigns, cost overruns and so on.

The only positive for the fanboy in me from this is if the americans really do build these then i expect China to do so as well, and i would expect them to put their BBGN(?) in the water before the americans.

Such large missile cruisers are ill-suited for future battlefields and will only become a disaster down the line. China's decision to build destroyers of the 055 class is the correct approach.
