Constellation Frigate Delivery Delayed 3 Years, Says U.S. Navy​


THE PENTAGON – The lead ship in a new class of guided-missile frigates for the U.S. Navy may be up to three years late, USNI News has learned.

Constellation (FFG-62), under construction at Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Wisconsin, may not deliver to the fleet until 2029, three years later than the original 2026 delivery goal, according to a service shipbuilding review.

The U.S. Navy has been having some pretty bad problems with getting ships and submarines constructed on time, and we reported on the potential impact that might have over a year ago: Delays with New Strategic Nuclear Missile Submarine Program Could Damage National Defense, GAO Reports:

The Government Accountability Office (GAO), which provides “the public with timely, fact-based, non-partisan information that can be used to improve government,” recently released a report raising concerns about the Navy’s Columbia Class ballistic (read nuclear) missile submarine program.

US Army to award four year procurement contract for 18,000 GMLRS rockets​


The Army plans to award a four-year multiyear procurement contract in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year to buy 18,000 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System missiles estimated to save $67.6 million, according to a service spokesperson.

When releasing its multiyear procurement bid last September, the Army estimated the savings would be 2.5% or $67.6 million “when compared to four annual awards,” according to budget documents from the Defense Department comptroller.
