The DOD buys in bulk as such a single $5.00 part doesn’t happen. It’s part of a bulk order. The DOD buys things for less than a grand all the time. They get M4A1 rifles for about $700.00 but when you get them in lots of 12,000 units it’s quickly builds up. A single bullet will run for a couple bucks depending on type. But in lots by the millions.

Your eastern bloc is showing American ammo is brass cased with copper jackets only the core of some rounds is steel. And that site is with a commercial mark up. The AP types can cost more and larger rounds also cost more.

in the region where I had lived there was a young guy, just graduated from a technical university, was about to get married, wasn't addicted, was from a well-known family with many children, in short no apparent problems, but hanged himself :-( he comes to my mind when I hear of suicides, now didn't read below the headline
