EUGENE, Ore. — A southern Oregon family has pleaded not guilty to charges that it filled its U.S. military defense contracts with defective knockoffs rather than government-specified parts for Army helicopters and trucks — including a critical helicopter part.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports that a federal judge entered the plea on behalf of Harold Ray Bettencourt Jr., his ex-wife and three of the couple's adult children on Tuesday.

The family faces charges that include conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.

Two other longtime employees of Bettencourt's Coos Bay company, Kustom Products Inc., also were arraigned Tuesday in the case. All seven remain free.

According to a federal grand jury indictment, Bettencourt's firm collected more than $7.5 million in government payments after selling "nonconforming, defective and counterfeit products" to the Department of Defense on at least 392 occasions.
It took them 392 occasions to suspend something might be wrong?

U.S. Warns Iran Against Blocking Off Strait of Hormuz
TEHRAN, Iran - The United States on Dec. 28 warned Iran that any move to block shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most important oil transit channel, will not be tolerated.

US aircraft carrier (probably USS John C. Stennis) 'spotted' in Iran wargames zone
A US aircraft carrier entered a zone near the Strait of Hormuz being used by the Iranian navy for wargames, an Iranian official said Thursday amid rising tensions over the key oil-transit channel. "A US aircraft carrier was spotted inside the manoeuvre zone... by a navy reconnaissance aircraft," Commodore Mahmoud Mousavi, the spokesman for the Iranian exercises, told the official IRNA news agency.

Ships Underway
Underway Aircraft Carriers:
USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) - port visit Hong Kong
USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) - Pacific Ocean
USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) - 5th Fleet
Underway Amphibious Assault Ships:
USS Bataan (LHD 5) - 5th Fleet
USS Makin Island (LHD Cool - 5th Fleet

Equation

Lieutenant General
What the heck is the Iran Navy doing? It will not stand a chance against the US Navy 5th fleet. Unless they intend on sinking several oil tankers at the narrowest part of the Hormuz straight to block passages, therefore raising the price of oil all over the world. Unless, they know the US or Israel are planning to attack Iran (the p.c. phrase for this is preemptive strike) pretty soon.

It is just deterrence against US and/or Israeli aggression. Both countries sound pretty belligerent the last several months.

The AEGIS Crusier Mobile Bay and an AEGIS Burke destroyer were also there and both passed completely through the straits.

Basically thje US Navy has said that Iran will not block the straits and they are there to ensure it...sailing through the Iranian manuevers in case they were trying to use those manuevers to make good their threat.

Tense situation...but I believe the Iranian Navy will not try anything.

The US Navy is keeping close track of each of the Iranian Kilos. Have been keeping tabs on them for years and in the event of major hostilities, they would be among the first to be targeted.

"We'll wipe Israel off the map" is pretty defensive all right

Same old game in the region, turn every conflict into a fight against the Israeli scapegoat. Problem is, people know this game by now and don't fall for it. I consider Iranian capability and actual willingness to do any major harm to Israel nil. That doesn't mean that they will do now mean harm via Hamas and Hisbollah, but rather not try to use WMD.
