Ngl, I feel like I'm the only one not into this whole sixth-gen progress d*ck measuring contest (it's everywhere, on both sides, in both countries). I wish more people would defer to Rick's comments, in that we simply can't be definitive right now and that certainty will only come retrospectively. At the end of the day, what matters is whether China can achieve its strategic goals, and sixth gen fighters are merely one piece of the puzzle.

Looking forward to Tyler's essay though.

Also on this note, a certain detestable individual (along with the awful group he associates with) has finally come after you @Blitzo . These guys are expert trolls, but unlike the NAFO bros, they actually know a fair bit about the PLA and how to perfectly spin a narrative in bad faith. I’d recommend keeping your distance (and anyone in their orbit), or if you do engage, tread with absolute calm.

At this point, whenever you see the "J-XDS is a rip-off of the F-22" or "NGAD has been flying for a decade," just go along with it. Doesn't hurt anybody (except maybe the US military preparedness, though I doubt they will change their ways anyhow). Trying to correct the cope at this point is like trying to stop a crackhead that you don't particularly care for from accessing more crack. Why bother?

I think NGAD (prototype or not) will be finally unveiled on the 80th b-day of the USAF. Current administration seems like the type to do something like that.

This debate about who flew prototype when, doesn't matter. What matters is who can have the first combat capable squadron of 6th gen first and how many years early.

First, maybe they need to have most of their f-35 in mission capable state... I cannot see US 6th gen systems remotely working as intended in the next decade. Maybe the US will be able to fly empty shells hangar queens at the start of the 30s, cannot see more happening.

Trying to derive a real sense of project status and progress in what is clearly an overtly politicized environment is rather fruitless. If the "F-47" moniker didn't give the game away, this official infographic tweeted a few months back by USAF Chief of Staff General David Allvin should have erased all doubt:

When will F-47 be operational? Perhaps it's operational now. Take that, China.

Compare with the comments from Andrew Hunter, then Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics, on

Andrew Hunter vacated his position one week later, amidst the glorious dawn of MAGA.

Real takeaway from the slide is that F-47, which has canards, is stealth++ and F-35 is only regular stealth, on par with CCAs (one of which has a single vertical slab). This puts canarded planes like the Fagin way ahead in at least stealth+ territory!

Probably some cucks on r/China_IRL.

Nah, China_irl is tame compared to these guys. These guys are infamous Chinese mil-fans on Twitter and are outright 支黑s, aka Shina haters (not just China, but Shina) but the hatred and self-loathing is so deeply rooted and on another level.

Anyway we should drop this as I just wanted to make a remark to Rick.
