Some times I think that Xi might end up the “winner” of the 21st geopolitics not because he is so much wiser and more cunning than the other heads of states, but because he is patient and willing to wait. Think about how long he kept a low profile before ascension as Chairman and General secretary. Think about how long he waited till it was the right moment to pounce and purge Zhou Yong Kang and Xu Caihou. Think about how when everyone is made about the Hong Kong riots and wanted China to send in the paramilitary but Xi kept his cool and a year after, when the opportunity was right. Boom, national security laws.

This is why I think worries about supposed lack of Chinese response to US tech ban, trade war, Taiwan, South China Sea intrusions, etc. are unfounded. When Xi deems that the conditions are right, he will pounce.

Reading comments from social media and sites like reddit you'd get the impression that Ukraine is winning while in reality Russian forces advancing all the time and this happens even on multiple military forums where people should know better.

Weird hysteria gripping people... everything coming from Ukrainian side is taken as fact even if it's random twitter account.
Its the same story that happened with the Taliban. Redditors were circlejerking that the Afghan Government had them surrounded, and next day the front page was full of videos showing the Taliban storming Kabul lol

Just assume that the average redditor is either 9 years old or a CIA keyboard warrior

MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky hastily fled Kiev on Friday and is currently in Lvov with his entourage, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin stated in his Telegram channel Saturday.

"Zelensky hastily fled Kiev. He was not in the Ukrainian capital yesterday already. He fled to Lvov with his entourage, where he and his assistance were provided with accommodation," the speaker said, adding that all videos published in the social media were recorded in advance.

"The information comes from Verkhovna Rada lawmakers who tried to meet with [Zelensky] in Kiev. They were invited to Lvov for a meeting. Zelensky is currently under protection of neo-Nazis," he added.

MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. Russia is capable of taking measures to mitigate the damage from sanctions, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Saturday.

"Immediate measures are certainly being taken in order to mitigate the damage from sanctions and ensure the unhindered operation of all economic sectors and systems," he noted.

Peskov stressed that Russia "has every possibility and potential to do that." "It was created in advance for such situations," the Kremlin spokesman added.

"Analysis will be required to determine the retaliatory measures that would best serve our interests," he said.

So I heard some more details on what happened at the airport. The first wave of VDV about 200 strong (company + an attached spec op team). The aerial assault was already balls to the wall, the choppers directly overflew air defence, dumping a all their flares with AAA and MANPADS going up all around them. After landing and initially capturing the airfield suddenly two T-64 showed up on the runway and larger scale AA batteries were discovered so the IL-76s with heavier equipment diverted to Belarus.

The 200 strong VDV company fought alone for 22 hours against two Ukrainian mechanised infantry brigades plus everything else the Kiev defenders could muster and throw at them totalling 3000 men. At one point even police SWAT team was sent to fight them and were beaten back. Notably VDV were extremely good at night fighting, they had magazines with no tracer rounds just for the occasion and relied on their night vision scopes. After 22 hours the cavalry from Belarus finally arrived finding them still holding the airport. Apparently VDV didn't even suffer that many casualty in the process.

I'm sure movies of this will be made by next year.
What is the point of taking an airport if heavy troops can reach it in 22h by land?
