The outgoing city council and mayor, which no longer have any real power beyond fabricating propaganda about the Russian occupation from a distance, have said that about 5,000 civilians died in the siege. It's impossible to know right now, and we may never have a good idea. It could be 5,000, it could also be 15,000 or 20,000. It's probably a lot given the brutality of the siege.
In the 2016 Russia supported assault on Aleppo about 1,000 civilians were killed. Surprisingly, that's less than in the US led assault on Raqqa in 2017 that claimed 1,600 civilian lives and destroyed about 70% of the city. Despite large civilian casualties, the US concluded that no war crimes were committed.

The sad situation with Mariupol was that a very large numbers of civilians were trapped in the city during the siege.

Demographic "crisis" is not a problem. Simple==> Germany/USA solution = accept immigrants. Problem solved.
Problem is, Russia is poorer by now than almost any of its neighbors. So what migrants should it attract? I doubt the Russians would be too welcoming to millions of Sub Saharan Africans.

Norway will actually be fine as long as your leaders put their country first, you will actually come out much richer than before. No subsidised gas to Europe, market prices only. No free energy exports.

I don't know what your politicians are like, is there a "Norway First" movement? I doubt Russia will invade you, Germany, England and/or France may do if you aren't giving up gas/oil and the people in their country are starving to death.
I'm not Norwegian but have both family and friends there.
I don't think they can become that much wealthier as a country those lucky sly bastards :D
The politicans there are your typical nordic lot but slightly more independent-minded and definitely savvy enough to save (i.e. hording) for a rainy day. Russia is seen as the only realistic external threat which explains the NATO membership (as a founding member no less) with the Norwegian continental shelf, the Barents Sea and the Arctic being vital areas for both countries (and in extension Europe, especially without Russian gas).

20-25% of all gas in the EU comes from Norway:

Ironically Russia has probably the best pro-natal policies in Europe. It's still bad, but it is demonstrably working better than anywhere in Europe. If needed they get plenty of immigration from central Asia anyway.

That is a topic that should be discussed in the demographic thread.

The Ukrainian government just called Bellingcat's story BS

They haven't been read the script yet. It is total bullsh*t, and yet is being propagated across all new channels. Apparently Abramovich's own spokesman is saying it's true, so the Ukrainians will recant their version (even though they know it couldn't have happened).

Watch, it'll just be an excuse to claim that Abramovich is actually a good guy and he doesn't need to be sanctioned. He'll continue being pro-Kremlin privately, and get to live in the west sanction free. The best of both worlds.
