Ukraine rebels parade banned tanks on Victory Day

"Thousands gathered Wednesday in Ukraine's rebel capital to watch a parade of banned tanks and artillery to celebrate the Soviet Union's World War II victory over Nazi Germany.

The display of such heavy weaponry used by Kremlin-backed rebels during their four-year conflict with government forces violates the terms of a 2015 peace deal that neither side has honoured.

The peace deal called for both sides to withdraw mortars, rockets and other large calibre arms from demarcation lines, one of which runs through the outskirts of Donetsk, the main city of the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic."

"Ukraine on Tuesday carried out tests of the top of the range Javelin anti-tank missile it recently bought from the United States to boost its arsenal against Russian-backed rebels.

"Finally the day has come," Poroshenko said after the test, which he claimed boosted Ukraine's military capabilities as it fights a long-running conflict with Russian-backed separatists in its east."

“Perhaps it could all have been a deliberate provocation by the SBU,” he announced at a press conference in Kiev.

But Mr Babchenko said he had chosen to believe threats on his life — and 29 others — were credible. “I didn’t get a letter from Putin with a stamp... but I believed what I heard,” he said, referring to accusations from Ukrainian authorities he had been targeted in a Russian plot. Moscow has denied involvement.
He agreed to work with agents without thinking “too much” about professional ethics, he said; his aim was to catch his alleged killers, and “provide a solid evidence base:”

Trust is an issue however. The SBU has been behind a string of dubious propaganda stories. There has been much criticism, too, of the lack of progress in the police investigation of journalist Pavlo Sheremet’s murder in 2016. No arrests have been made.

On Thursday, names of the men allegedly involved in the assassination scheme began to trickle through. The claims have yet to be verified, and there is little other concrete evidence. We don’t, for example, have any proof of a 30-man hit-list, even the names. We don't know how the SBU determined the hit-list came from Russia, if indeed they did. Nor do we understand why such an extreme operation, announcing the journalist’s death, was necessary.

Ukrainian company UkrObonrProm’s subsidiary, SE “Scientific and Production Complex “Iskra”, has developed a new 1L220UK mobile weapon locating system.

The 1L220UK is a weapon locating radar system designed to providing protection of own troops and civilians by suppressing enemy artillery weapons and/or provide warning for incoming fire. The weapon locating radar system incorporates the latest technologies and is effective in a counter-fire and ECM environment.

According to the UkrOboroProm representative, the system is capable of precisely locating and identifying the type of threat (shells or rockets) as well as tracking their trajectory. It tracks at tens of kilometers the exact location of enemy guns, mortars, multiple launch rocket system, as well as air defence missile systems and tactical missiles.

The L220UK provides effective firing activity under the conditions of reduced visibility and enemy electronic counter-measures; increase of the reconnaissance and killing area by a factor 8 to 10 times, in comparison with the battalions equipped with standard facilities; reduction of fire mission execution time by a factor of 1,5 to 2 times; reduction of the ammunition expenditure by a factor of 2,5 to 3 time.
