Kiev is playing a dangerous game to ensnare NATO by provoking Moscow. However things turn out for Russia and NATO, it's likely Ukraine will be wrecked to the point where it would cease to function as a truly sovereign nation. Right or wrong, fair or unfair, Ukraine was and probably will continue be a buffer state for Russia.

Poroshenko was yesterday in the Netherlands. In preparation he gave an interview to my Dutch newspaper. To announce this interview the paper had an article on the front page that included remarks about MH17 by P. that were not part of the interview:

Translation:
The guilt in the MH17 has not yet been considered but P. said he has the answer:
"I can say things the Dutch can't say. The MH17 was not shot down by a Buk missile in the hands of the terrorists. It was a Russian Buk launched by a crew trained in Russia. It was a Russian responsibility." He won't say where the Russian launch crew came from. "I can't give that information. Russia should now first say that it doesn't as a state support terrorists and not anymore use its veto in the Security council."

Apparently he doesn't consider that such a story shouts: MOTIVE!!!!

Vladimir Putin attended the launch of the first leg of the power line ensuring direct supplies of electricity from Russia's main land to the Crimean peninsula.

SIMFEROPOL (Crimea) (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday attended the launch of the first leg of the power line ensuring direct supplies of electricity from Russia's mainland to the Crimean peninsula hit by Ukraine's energy blockade.

"Over 100 kilometers [62 miles] of high-voltage electric power lines have been built, and today we are launching the first leg," Putin announced.

The launch of the first leg will significantly decrease electricity deficit in Crimea, while the construction of the second leg by May 2016 is expected to completely eliminate Crimea's dependency on electricity transit through Ukraine.

Crimea was literally plunged into darkness last week after Ukrainian nationalists blew up pylons that support electricity lines from Ukraine. Kiev claims that "activists" have been obstructing repair works.

Some 1.6 million people out of 2 million living in Crimea have been left without electricity. The Russian government pledged to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Until then, the region will rely on backup power sources.

Crimean authorities said earlier there was little chance that the region would ever be reconnected to Ukraine’s power grid. Ukraine’s radical Right Sector organization pledged on Monday to continue its energy blockade.

The largest, right wing, paper in the Netherlands opens today with news that 24 paintings, and presumably a load of silver objects, stolen from a small Dutch museum in 2005, has been offered back via the Dutch embassy in Kiev against an unrealistically high price by a extreme right wing militia in Ukraine.
I haven't read the article but my favourite radio station said this morning that the matter is playing now for a year that the police has been unable to help presumably because of the close connections between the extremists and the police ( sic! ). As the criminals are now offering smaller portions of the loot the museum has published the matter and the estimated monetary value of the objects to make sure no-one will innocently buy any of it.

This paper was always a supporter of the Kiev regime but this might well make it change its attitude.

My newspaper,

, publishes two articles about the art matter. It says that the militia is St Mary's, connected with the Svoboda party of Oleh Tyahnybok and that the vice-commander of the militia Borys Humeniuk is the one who offered the paintings which they estimated as worth EUR 50 million and for which they wanted EUR 5 million. The museum estimates the value at EUR 1.3 million.
A Dutch investigator thinks the former head of the Ukrainian Secret Service Valentyn Nalyvaichenko is also concerned in the matter.

This is what happens when European military spending is beyond low and have no guts to stand up only announcing more training and excercises when sovereign country has it's land grabbed ie Crimea from Ukraine

Leave Russia alone and before you know it the "grey" areas have been in cooperated into Russia

I hope Turkey decides to deploy a F16 Squadron to Ukraine no question that will make Russia think twice

If Russia did not take Crimea there would be no Black Sea fleet and we wouldn't be in this current situation in Syria

The price for doing nothing is far greater

Please! Ukraine was an independent, whole, sovereign country that was playing a very successful game of getting the EU and Russia into a bidding war for its affections.

Problem is when Kiev chose Russia over the EU, certain players did not like it and staged a coup to oust the democratically elected government and install a pro-Western regime that wasted absolutely no time signing binding agreements with the EU.

As far as the Russians are concerned, it was the West who threw the rule book out the window along with its dummy when it lost fair and square and restored to underhand tactics. Don't begrudge the Russians for being better at that as well.

I hope Turkey decides to deploy a F16 Squadron to Ukraine no question that will make Russia think twice

Yes, put Turkish assets right in the middle of Russia's gun sites, and give Putin a perfect excuse to invade the rest of Ukraine. That's real smart.

If Russia did not take Crimea there would be no Black Sea fleet and we wouldn't be in this current situation in Syria

The price for doing nothing is far greater

The Black Sea Fleet was there long long before any of this.

Ukraine and Geogria are clear examples of what happens when middling powers overestimate their own strength and worth and go setting grand plans that they have no ability to fully implement into motion.

Turkey would do well to gain a little better self awareness and not push its luck any more than it already have. It has thus far only avoided paying a massive price for its leader's stupidity because of the protection offered by NATO.

In the current political climate, if Russia were to decide to seriously test NATO's resolve, NATO may well blink.

It is one thing banding together for mutual protection. It's a very different thing to send your sons and daughters out to die in huge numbers for the stupidity of one man.

In April there will be a non-binding referendum in the Netherlands on the associating treaty of Ukraine to EU. Parliament will probably vote in accordance with the referendum result that in its turn will be influenced by Kiev's general conduct and especially by the matter of the 24 Dutch paintings. I think many people here will be happy to see Kiev go down the drain. In the circumstances ....

Who cares about NATO what has NATO done ? Nothing

Russia has it's own interests that's fine go about them but when they start to show these intentions against certain country's and one of them being Turkey then they can know the price they will have to pay will bankrupt them

And Putin just mentioned nukes?? Which leader in the civilised world mentions nukes ? I know why, to send a message to Turkey

If Russia decides to use it's advantage in ballistic missile and nukes over Turkey then know that Turkey has friends which also have formidable ballistic and nuclear capability's

Putin says he 'hopes' nuclear warheads will never be needed against Isis... or anyone else
