What is the long-term plan for Novorossiya? Do they really want to be an independent country? Why hasn't Russia annexed them like they did with Crimea?

Russians want land road to Crimea and keeping up the fighting is making sure that Ukrainians cannot develop their country and have to waste money on war.
Earlier they apparently wanted to take whole Ukraine but after loosing hundreds of Russians soldiers and many more of so called "volunteers" that plan is most likely scrapped for now. If thousands of Russian soldiers started arriving in wooden boxes back to Russia it's very like that people would start asking questions.
Russia needed to protect its naval base in Sevastopol and there is a Russian speaking majority in the Crimea. Combined with the way Crimea was added to Ukraine some sixty years ago the development we saw there was an obvious and advantageous possibility.
The current Novorossiya nor the whole of Ukraine are pieces of real estate Russia would want to acquire. But it does want to prevent Ukraine remaining a satellite of US. This in short is how the Saker explains it. See .
The Crimea is very much larger than Gibraltar and UK doesn't need a land road to that rock either.

Well, according to many Russian sources, Mozgovoy was killed on orders from Igor Plotnitsky, head of LPR . Mozgovoy publicly criticized idea of Novorussia ever returning back to Ukraine, although this seems to be official line of Kremlin in this moment (Lavrov statement and other things ) . Plotnitsky of course has full support of Kremlin although he is nor very popular among population . It is possible he decided to remove "loose ends" before final decision on the fate of rebellion .
Anyway, it's a bad news for rebels , as Ukrainian summer offensive is about to start any day now . General feeling is that Kremlin decided to abandon them, maybe even let them be militarily defeated . We shall see how would thing develop in next few weeks .

Well, it is almost certain to happen any day now (unless something dramatically changes on diplomatic front) . Ukraine again amassed more then 40 000 troops , over 300 tanks and over 900 other armored vehicles in the region. Something is bound to happen by the end of June or in the beginning of July .
