The Astute class is a highly capable platform and some would argue even better than the Virginia class. Some delay in my view is not a big deal when dealing with complexity. .

Royal Navy SSN have been going through longer and longer deployments
when they are short on subs they just stretch the deployments
one of the longest was HMS Trenchant at 335 days in 2012 thats 11 months! imagine that
RN submarines are very hard pressed and in my opinion with 2 x carriers they need to add another 4 x SSN to their fleet
so instead of stopping at 7 x Astute they should continue for 11 in total

Or didn’t see. But this far it seems like at least the US F35 in the AOR are sporting lenses. The British are probably the same.
