What amazing pics.

Now they need to add two Darings to go along with the two Type 23 FFGs.

That an at least one Astute as well, will be an extremely POWERFUL CSG. Very modern, very potent, very capable all around.

Makes me want to see some F-35Bs on deck right now!

Just doesn't get much better than that right there my friends.

Imagine, in 2-3 years time we are going to see joint ops with a Ford class, a couple of Ticos and Burkes, the Queen Elizabeth, a couple of Darings and Type 23s...and Astutes and Virginias.

What a site that will be...and what a force it will be as we cousins get all of our new, powerful vessels together for joint ops.

I'd love to see one of theZumwalts go along for the ride too!

Rolls-Royce powering ahead

Rolls-Royce says it is now on course to rectify issues with the UK Royal Navy’s Type 45 WR-21 engines alongside continuing to deliver to other vessels in the UK and across the globe.

What is the benefit of having two islands?
When you have carriers with only one island you have to make a compromise between which mission to favor, Navigation or flight operations?
The rear island favors Flight ops it give a good view of the deck and recovery operations. but from navigation you lose an unobstructed view of the sea. a forward island gives you that navigation but loses on the recovery side. both Sacrifices deckspace but allows good navigation and flight operations

I disagree.

There is no compromise with a Nimitz class.

The three tier bridge of IKE (CVN 69).
Top teir..Prifly for controlling the flight deck.
Middle Tier..The Navigational Bridge.
Third tier..Flag Bridge. Where the Admiral observes operations.

The two island concept must work for the RN. So great for the RN.

Another point the RN makes is in regards to battle damage.

Apparently they have both wired to handle prifly and navigation...so if one is taken out by a missile, the other can come up to speed and perform both sets of operations.

...
as I said Mar 31, 2017 (maybe even before)
and have repeated since then:
... I consider the Nimitz class the ultimate supercarriers ...

this remains to be seen

actually I read in Internet visceral texts saying the two islands are there to make it very clear who's the boss and who's the driver (I wouldn't repost)
