That person has yet to write a single post without degrading China in some way.
That's simply not true, cn-habs.

Although there is no doubt that he has made some posts (and he is an American of Chinese descent as I understand it) that our PRC members certainly have taken issue with, he has also made numerous posts that do not touch on the PRC at all.

You can click on his name and look at all of his in forum posts and see for yourself.

No I didn't read that, though after the Manila fiasco 3 years ago and the ongoing monkey show since then, you shouldn't be surprised at all, as am I.

Well you don't know the context which is why you don't understand. There's no surprise. You should know some people have very short memories and need to be reminded.

Neither that is surprising, because Philippines is a country that, geographically, getting hit by typhoons smack on annually, and at least one significant earthquake per year, so they should've been better prepared, yet there they are...so I don't find it necessary to comment on their memory span.

The Philippines has accepted China’s offer to send its naval hospital ship to aid distressed survivors of Typhoon Yolanda that devastated many areas in the Visayas nearly two weeks ago.“We are thankful for the offer of China to send the Peace Ark Hospital Ship to support the relief operations,” Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez told a press briefing Thursday.China’s Peace Ark Hospital, reports said, is already bound for the badly-hit Visayas region to provide relief assistance to the victims.“The schedule and other details related to its deployment are now being coordinated with the concerned agencies,” Hernandez said.China’s increased assistance came amid criticisms of its initial paltry donation of $100,000 to the Philippines, a United States ally and Beijing’s rival claimant in the South China Sea territories.

As nice as it is to finally see China sending in the 'Peace Ark' I was hoping that they would send in a Type 071 and practice some intensive helicopter sorties delivering supplies and/or rescue teams.

If that's the case, it would seem sending in Liaoning with nothing but helos would be even better. Aside from sorties delivering supplies, I think a very productive mission would be to send in an engineering brigade with heavy equipment focusing on clearing the roads and restoring some basic infrastructure.

"Peace Ark" has deployed for humanitarian relief duty in the Republic of the Philippines. She will get there much faster than USNS Mercy the USN Pacific fleet hospital ship.

I wonder how difficult it was getting the crew all formed.

I always advocated the Peace Ark should go to the Phillippines after the typhoon struck, however considering the ship had just completed a four month long distance deployment and only returned home in late september/early october, I expect the crew would all have just settled down back home with families, and that the ship would probably have been under maintenance. Being a one of a type ship, it also means familiar crew would have to be fairly limited and specialized too.

Chances are the PLAN intended to send the Peace Ark pretty early (this is exactly the kind of mission it was designed for), but the delay in actually announcing it was because they needed to get all the crew and equipment ready first.
It's a bit of a double edged sword. On the one hand, announcing it later means it literally deploys from port a day or something after the announcement. On the other hand, there will always be media outlets that's wondering what the ship was doing in port for the last few weeks -- of course chances are even if the PLAN announced Peace Ark's deployment right after Haiyan hit, it would still have taken them this long to deploy.

Oh well, what's important is they're going now. Let's hope they can work with the Phillippines government to make full use of its capabilities.
