Type 076 LHD/LHA discussion

If it's possible, it would make sense to operate J-35 from Sichuan for the same reasons the F-35B operate from the american LHAs. At the moment the lack of a high performance combat aircraft, VTOL or not, is a severe weakness of the chinese LHA/LHDs imo.

We need to understand why there are aircraft operating on Landing Assault ships like USS America. And why PLA Navy marine corps are vastly different from US Marine Corps.

1) Combat aircraft, fixed and rotor wings, operating from US Navy LHA are basically under command of US Marine Corps, NOT US Navy. In contrast, PLA Marine corps is a part of the PLA navy and PLA marines do not possesed any aircraft of their own.

2) Since US Marine Corps is a seperated branch from US Navy, their air wing operatiion doctrine is different from US Navy air wings on aircraft carriers. Primary mission of air wings on US Marine corps are to support the marine's expeditionary missions mainly involve amphibious assaults.

3) Unless there is a joint-service operation, US Marine corps use the LHA instead of Navy's aircraft carrier to transport their fighter jets. LHA like USS America are OPTIMIZED for the marine aircraft, basically F-35B, MV-22 and CH-53K, which are short or vertical take-off or landing. Basically it is like you mind your business, and I mind my business, between US navy and US Marine Corps. Such distinction does not exist in PLA Navy.

4) US Navy's air wings DO NOT operated from the LHA eventhough technically all LHA are under the US Navy's command.

5) Seperating manned combat jets and UCAV/UAV operating from aircraft carrier and type 076 may actually stream line the deck operations and logistic requirements. And with seperate set of operational protoco/procedure on aircraft carrier and the LHA Drone ship.

for service with the Navy's fleets, including the forward-deployed Marine Expeditionary Units embarked aboard Navy amphibious warships. The Corps also contributes some Marine Aviation fixed-wing fighter/attack assets (aircraft squadrons and related aircraft maintenance augmentation units) as part of the Carrier Air Wings deployed aboard aircraft carriers.
US Navy provides transport, logistical, and combat support to put Marine units into the fight, such as

Imo the issue of the various doctrines of the US services, specifically here the USMC, is secondary to the fact that having F-35Bs on their LHAs is a huge force multiplier and a critical boost to the american air assets, overall increasing the number of highly capable aircraft serving the US military goals in a conflict.

China doesn't have to parallel the USMC doctrine to justify basing J-35 or a notional VTOL fighter on the PLAN LHA/LHDs. Rather it would be to boost the overall numbers of high end aircraft available to PLAN and the chinese military strategy as a whole, on the tactical level not only countering the US LHA F-35Bs but also helping reduce the so far still overwhelming numerical disparity between chinese and US carrier aircraft (F-35Bs being an important numerical part of that disparity).
