Type 022 Missile Boat

Since I couldn't find the specific thread for this, I'll put it here since it's also about a missile boat.

CCTV visited a retired Type 037-2 Missile boat, which was one of the boat visiting Hong Kong during the 1997 handover. Interesting look into the Combat Management System as well as the Radar system designation.

One of the more interesting observations at Liaonan yard along with the new FFL is that the Type 022 missiles boats are seemingly undergoing MLU refits there. There is word that apparently the missile launchers have been removed.

For transfer to the coast guard perhaps?

Like my motorcycle mechanic says, everything is possible, its just a matter of cash.

Realistically the boats are probably designed around one type of missile and hence it would be very difficult. However, I am not sure though they'd be much use for the Coast Guard either. Conventional monohulls would seem to be cheaper to maintain and more user-friendly. Anyway, maybe they turn them into drone motherships. I kid, but not really.

Do you think possible to have the 8x YJ-83 be upgraded ? However, I don't see any need of Type 022 anymore for PLAN
I will LOL if they give them the YJ-19. It would make them very relevant again. Add the HQ-10, 6-8 YJ-19s and a modern data link, they would become a significant threat. Nowadays, it is much easier for them to survive too. FIC would have DDG, AEW and TACAIR presence.

Nope, not happening. Type 022 just don't have the space and I presume the weight margins for these new additions.

YJ-19 is really big, I presume 9m, 2.5 tons at least based on the 3rd Sept parade trucks. While YJ-83 Series are basically Exocet sized. The weight difference alone will limit it from 8 missiles to 4 max. Not to mention the packaging issue.

Forget about HJ-10, where are you supposed to put it on the boat? Putting it in place of the 30mm gatling means the cockpit is getting blasted ever other missile launch. Not a good idea.

Last but not least, why spend the retrofit money on short ranged speedboats when they can put it on more seaworthy ships? Or if you want to defend the islands, on trucks?

The HJ-19 is torpedo tube sized even with its booster. HQ-10 was supposed to replace the 30 mm. Jet blast is probably a solveable problem, considering how small the missile is. Opportunity cost would be the only thing I would be concerned about. I generally don't believe in missile boats in 2025. I guess these boats could offload some strike duties from aviation with good missiles. I cannot say anything about if that could worth the price. Their current armament is completely obsolete, maybe except against the Philippines.
