But one has to start somewhere, right? Perhaps Turkey will be the first to make the jump in the shortest amount of time.
What's your reasoning for this? What does Turkey have that's unique to provide a design and construction boost over India or Korea?

(Slight) desperation because of the overt and covert embargoes and sanctions placed on them. BTW, is the TF-X timeline the shortest development schedule compared to other 5th gen projects? And if so, it is by a small margin.

Well would you look at that! The 1500hp BATU engine has been fired up this month like promised by the head of BMC Power! And the transmission for the 1000hp diesel engine which has been fired up earlier in this year has also been successfully started!

In this context, the BATU project, whose engine start-up was successfully carried out in April 2021, continues with the testing and qualification studies at the BMC Power Test Center. The commercialization calendar is targeted as 2024.

The engine of the system, which has a 1000 HP engine, a transmission with steering and braking capability, a low-volume high-efficiency cooling system and a multi-functional electronic control unit, was successfully fired at the beginning of 2021 and the transmission was successfully started in April 2021. Testing and qualification studies are continuing at the BMC POWER Test Center. The project completion date is planned as 2023.

CATS System has been integrated into TB-2 and ANKA-S UAV Platforms, and serial production activities are continuing to meet the intense demands from domestic and foreign countries as of 2020. As ASELSAN, we are developing the ASELFLIR-F500C Electro Optic System, the advanced version of the CATS System, in order to meet the new needs. The system is aimed to consist of High Definition Thermal Sensor, High Definition Day Vision Sensor, High Definition SWIR Sensor, Laser Range Finder and Laser Pointer units. Platform integration will begin in the second half of 2022, and discussions are ongoing to integrate it into many air platforms, especially the TB-2, ANKA-S and AKINCI Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
The bold parts are important. It will have HD resolution thermal-imagers (1280x720) like on the MX-15D, Safire 380-HD etc. Currently the Turkish thermal resolution for these compact electro-optical systems is 640x512.

In fact NO! Simply since it will take years before a power-pack comparable to the original engine is ready and IF it will be successful is yet another question.
But what if I told you that BMC Power is getting help from the Brits for the transmissions?:

Would you then agree with me? Surely the Brits know what they are doing....Right? Or only the Germans?

Why so snappy? I did not claim that the Germans can do everything better - even if this is always portrayed this way in some countries, including Turkey - nor that the Turks cannot do it ... but it costs time and money, and I hardly see anything enough of them given the grandiose announced projects. Even more it becomes clear that most of this is done only with the help of others ...

As such, lets wait and see.

I'm not the one who is snappy Herr Rupprecht :D! I just find it so funny to see people like you trying to squirm their way out of the obvious.

What is the obvious one may ask? Well the obvious is the Turkish military-technological developments of the last 2 decades which will reach its zenith with the production of a 5th gen fighter and even beyond. Meanwhile Turkey is developing all kinds of advanced military tech to achieve that, from electronics, to turbine engines, missiles, radars, aircraft, ships, subs and all of their accosted critical technologies.

Out of all these neck-breaking developments one can logically deduce that some diesel engines is firmly within reach for the Turkish military complex to develop and produce in the coming years.

The changes occur so fast in the Turkish military-technological sectors that one needs to daily keep up with, otherwise one is insufficiently aware what is going on and might still indulge in old-fashioned views about Turkish technological advancements.
