They do that everyday already. The mass produced American junk food is both unhealthier and more affordable than buying the actual ingredients. And the fast food is even worse.
There are large areas of USA /North America where it is called a "food desert" where fresh vegetables/meats /spices are totally absent and ethnic people like us Chinese can't readily get the ingredients for making simple,traditional healthy dishes and once children grow upeating fast /ultra processed food and etc the effects on health are horrifying from rampant obesity/diabetes ,premature aging,learning deficits,cancers/cardiovascular/GI-bowel diseases etc.Blame the billionaires who want to control ALL of the food resources and won't allow independent farmers' markets,grocers etc.
You're right, but in the US the definition of a "food desert" is about reliable access to a local market/grocery store of any size. Fresh ingredients is not even including in that definition (but should be). So the problem is even worse than most people know.
That's effectively been the case for decades!
In fact, America's unparalleled capacity for engineering and manufacturing disturbingly unhealthy — if not at times — ultra processed foods stands tall as one of the few surviving testaments to American vigor in industry and innovation.
It's also one of the principal reasons why according to CDC reporting funded by the USG:

For example, Americans of East Asian descent (e.g., Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese heritage), and those representing the top 1% in income and/or net worth enjoy a considerably lower obesity rate in the teens.
Most impressive of all, the obesity rate for the "top 1%" of American females sits in the single digits!
This is why you'll rarely see fat chicks socializing at private and country clubs (including any one of the many beautiful and exclusive establishments), sitting courtside at NBA games, or shopping at boutiques on Rodeo Drive or Oak Street.
