This is what LKY wrote a lot about. People are ultimately loyal to their tribe over policies. Singapore survives coz it's 70% Chinese. If it was less than that, things would start falling apart real fast. He said it would be better if SG had more Chinese but that's reality so he dealt the best way he could. Maybe it's different now but I believe that in the Singapore army, they did not let Malays handle stuff like artillery or other advance weaponry since they could not be trusted with such important stuff.

Honestly I'm surprised even the west still praises him. By modern western standards he should have been cancelled for racism, Chinese chuvanism and other right wing stuff.
What do you say about Switzerland then? 40% of the people have a migration background, the country is super diverse but still kicking ass in every indicator. Hell, you go to Switzerland from Germany (with an ethnic majority), you feel like you landed in heaven from hell. Although Switzerland feels posh. Its immigrants are posh.

Trump threatens mass firings of federal workers if government shutdown isn’t averted, NBC News reports

President Donald Trump warned Sunday of widespread layoffs if the federal government shuts down this week, telling NBC News that “we are going to cut a lot of the people that ... we’re able to cut on a permanent basis.”

″[I’d] rather not do that,” he told NBC News in an exclusive interview.

The White House is doubling down on warnings that thousands of government jobs could be on the line if the government shuts down at midnight on Tuesday.

The Trump administration last week told federal agencies to begin preparing for mass firings if Congress does not agree to a deal to avert a shutdown. If the White House follows through on its threat, it would mark a break from precedent, as federal employees are typically furloughed in such cases.

When there was a full government shutdown in 2013, for instance, about 850,000 employees were furloughed, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.
The warning of potential mass firings — which was made via a memo released by the Office of Management and Budget — marked a significant escalation of pressure on congressional lawmakers to head off a shutdown.

Still, with less than three days until the government funding deadline, lawmakers remain far apart on negotiations, increasing the chances of a shutdown.
“we are going to cut a lot of the people that ... we’re able to cut on a permanent basis.” ″[I’d] rather not do that,” he told NBC News in an exclusive interview.

Another flip. From purging the government to not wanting to purge it anymore.

Ah yes Switzerland. The land filled with White Western Europeans who happen to use languages that use the same script and ultimately in the same religion. Totally the definition of diversity and comparable to what Singapore has. /s

And even despite having such similarities, this is how the

As for Switzerland being rich, when you think about it, can you even name one western European nation that is objectively poor? Even lazy and more chilled guys like Spain and Italy are considered rich compared to the rest of the world.

The current version of Switzerland has been here since 1848. In the grand scheme of things, its not a very long period. Credit Suisse was born around the same time and now it doesn't exist as a standalone bank. How long it will last has yet to be seen esp when Europe's gravy train build a lot on colonization runs out. In the past we didn't even have a proper nation state identity which is not the same today where people are much more aware of their differences.

The difference between Germans and Italians is not more than the difference between Malays and Chinese lmfao, if you take religion out of the equation. The way you see then as „white Eruopean“ is the way people look at Asians. Go to Switzerland and see for yourself how diverse it is, it‘s not just white Eruopeans who live there.

If Germans and Italians can get along with each other, you gotta ask yourself why the same thing is not happening in Asia. The answer is it‘s the Asians who are tribal and hung up on family, clans, country etc while the West is individualistic. Middle East is the worst culprit of it. For example, recently there were anti-Chinese protests in Korea while Koreans were holding American (who humiliated them earlier) flags. How different are Koreans and Chinese compared to Germans and Italians.

Your own post says Switzerland has been around a lot longer than Singapore and it‘s not just topping in wealth but also in innovation, livability etc. ETH Zürich is consistently the best university in EU and one of the best in the world and you know what it‘s also super cheap even for foreginers.

The quintessential European lib post. Straight out of /r/europe

The fact that you equate Germans vs Italians vs Chinese vs Malays says it all. Forget religion. Genetically Germans and Italian have far less distance than Chinese and Malays. Then there's culture, language, historic relations all of which all of which has way more overlap for Germans and Italians than Chinese and Malaysians. This is despite the whole med vs germanic thing.

No. Switzerland is not really diverse like you're trying to force it in this thread. Its already mainly german (which is why it had no issue hoarding Nazi gold) with the some other europeans from the other sides. Europeans like to think they are so special and different when they conveniently use a common Indo European language and all have a similar phenotype. Europe is called its own continent despite being technically part of the whole asia continent. And despite that Europeans have fought each other countless times from the 1600s to 1900s despite being similar. It was one of the most fought over area during that period. Both world wars started in Europe and technically speaking Europe is already at war right now. And it will probably happen again in the future. I noticed you completely ignored the part that conveniently shows what happens when these so called diverse Swiss meet actual foreign stuff like Islam and non European immigrants.

Europe itself has all these right wing parties coming up. And the main factor is immigration and culture clashes. Nuff said.

You've been called out for bad takes by others and straight up giving out fake info sometimes. Seems you are still here to cause trouble again.

In what universe do you think Switzerland is "super cheap even for foreigners"

It sounds like you've never travelled around Europe, never mind the rest of the world.

As of 2024, out of 36 countries, Switzerland is the most expensive, with prices at 184% of the EU average — 84% higher than the average.

You have too narrow a perspective.

China by itself is a lot larger than all of Europe. Roughly speaking, China has twice the population and land area.
And if you look 2000 years ago, China is composed of what were many pre-existing tribes, just like in Europe.

Yet now, China now has a single national language and a national identity.
They do get along with each other, like your German-Italian example.
In contrast, we can see an ongoing fragmentation of Europe with a resurgence of Tribalism and Nationalism.

---

You want to compare relations between China-Korea and say these countries "don't get along"

Well, the European equivalent is Europe-Russia or Europe-Middle East.
Russia relations here are awful, because Europe is conducting an ongoing military war.
And we see a lot of anti-Islamic sentiment against immigrants from the Middle East.
