India is just going to be the Philippines writ large. Primary and tertiary industries without a manufacturing base.

Poor analogy. India has a relatively small manufacturing share, but its size means that it's still decently large in absolute terms. It's big enough to benefit from economies of scale. Philippines is literally an order of magnitude smaller.

The American users should presently still be the most valuable because of their spending power. TikTok makes their money by selling ads. But I imagine the majority of the US user base is GenZ and the MAGAfication of the app might drive them away.

I suggest the international version have their own built-in free VPN service to accommodate US users who aren't MAGA.

About Tiktok. Who handles their workload outside North America. That is currently under Oracle and will remain so. But outside is it Bytedance data centers of someone else?

Already posted, it means the algorithm, Americans gets to setup a separate US only TikTok and pay ByteDance for permission to use (note not access) China's export controlled algorithm, ByteDance/China continue to control what Americans see, but now Americans has to pay China for that previlage.

The only plus for Americans is they'll get censorship power over US users, which is what AIPAC cares about.

On a serious note the lady Trump appointed to monitor anti-Semitic content on TikTok is doing a very poor job. Not only are there loads of anti-Israel content but there are loads of legit right wing neo Nazi content as well. The comments section on those are simply nuts.

That's to a certain degree intentional.

Can't keep on pretending to be victims forever and ever if all the boogymen have been wiped out or otherwise silenced.

Depending on how the subsidiary is set up there are two possibilities. One it's simply a share sale of tiktok as a whole then status quo. If it's creation of tiktok US as a new subsidiary then things get interesting. Is operation between US and rest of the world going to remain same or different. If same then users won't face problems. Now if there is a creation of a walled garden where data has to be copied between borders for users then egress costs will eat TikTok as Oracle will squeeze them hard.

I think you need to keep in mind ByteDance shut down TikTok for 24 hours despite Biden explicitly telling them not to just to spite the Americans.

If it comes up it'll be Oracle who has to pay ByteDance for egress, just like the US will have to pay China to use the algorithm to avoid losing it due to their own laws.

Maybe they are using Huawei or Alibaba datacenters.
