Americans have generally memory holed the detail that Trump was president in 2020.
Even in rural villages there's solar panels on every roof, wind turbines, farmers using drones and tractors, and even BMW EVs weren't exactly rare. Even 10 years ago there were high rises, solar powered LED streelights and every farmer had a smartphone. And this is central China, not Jiangsu, Guangdong or Zhejiang.
the American quality of life ironically stems from totalitarianism. There is immense policing on individual behavior with punishments, both social and de-facto legally, on "annoying" behaviors such as walking on public roads at a crosswalk, smoking, drinking, yelling, existing in public spaces without buying things, hanging clothes outside, etc that in other countries (even developed ones) are just part of life.
That means for the ultra rich in the US not only have material plenty but don't have to think about the poor existing at all. In fact, if you ask on XHS, a major selling point of the US for rich Chinese is literally "not having to smell the second hand smoke" "not having to listen to people blasting Douyin in public spaces" "tourist spots being not crowded" or "not having to pay attention to jaywalkers while driving" - things that can't be bought with money, only social totalitarianism.
Normally I’m against judging people based on their origins but Shanghai really does seem to have a significantly higher portion of cucks in all age groups than its neighboring provinces (even irl)…… Of course no offense to all the industry workers in Shanghai, They are redder than red. But I think the whole financial sector has the power to turn people into cucks in this world dominated by international capital. And I guess there is some historical cuckness inherited through family…..
BUT It’s still light years better than HK because of GFW. President Xi please I beg you please bring GFW to HK and bring HKers back to sentient life……

And they're talking like everyone else is dumb not taking it as seriously as they do... And one of them is a female who looks like guy and has lesbian vibes... ironic. She makes a statement when the subject was about all the apathy towards Kirk that left-wing women are dumb. You mean not like Sarah Palin...? Not like Marjorie Taylor Green...? Shanghai's current western-leaning comes from benefiting greatly from foreign investment during the opening up in the 90s. It did lead to the city's incredible growth over the last 30 years. The thing with KMT is because that recent wave of opening up somewhat resemble KMT rule in terms of attracting foreign money. It probably won't change until US hegemony falls.

this is how I understand it. A large proportion of Shanghai natives took their 拆迁 relocation money and left the country, if not the whole family, then at least a large branch of the family. They invest it in western financial markets and don't have to work much. They also spread tons of propaganda about China and appear extremely out of touch to the majority because their complaints generally stem from "Outside poors and the regime catering to them have ruined Shanghai, why can't it just be us and the whites again"
The "new" Shanghai residents are people from outside the city, a large portion from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, etc. and are not invested in a Shanghai local identity. They're the ones who actually do work and are much more normal.
Wow the American right is going to milk this case down to the last drop, maybe they will try for a Patriot Act but for LGBT instead of Muslims! I say go for it, that's just what the world needs, America distracted in another war on Terror but mainly directed at itself and some European appendages.
Yes I can confirm this matches the situation in Singapore. To them, their entire present success comes from generations of dealing with supposedly "generous" (i.e. born with a silver spoon) white people, their current assets are all sunk into the "high-return" (i.e. overinflated government-supported bubble) Australian real estate and Wall Street investments, and so they think that these so-called open-handed white people are the source of all good things on earth. And their present success gives them the opportunity to thumb their nose at those "dirty, slimy, uncultured" (i.e. born in Sub-Saharan-level GDP per capita) Chinamen, so they naturally attribute everything bad in the world to un-Westernized people instead. when anything bad happens to their lives they will say it's because the "hordes" are overwhelming the "white saviours," and it never occurs to them for a second that their "success" is because the Western powers chose them as subsidised forward bases to terrorise and enslave the rest of the third world.
Just imagine the crap we have to contend with/and deprogram once TW is reunited with the ML-it won't be easy nor pretty.Can't wait.
