And they invited Trump to China. Such gracious hosts.
Lol
If Trump really had the power, he would make Xi come to Washington, instead of him going over to China to grovel

6 months licences, amount is probably monitored or capped.
Dependent on how trump and his team gives concessions, the duration and amount can change.

The license isn't being given to US automakers, it's being given to Chinese exporters who can apply to sell to US customers who meet sanction compliance requirements.
But so far, only some Chinese suppliers of U.S. companies have received six-month export licenses for rare earths, the American Chamber of Commerce in China said Friday, citing a survey of members from May 23 to 28.
She added during a separate press conference Thursday that China would approve applications for export licenses in line with its regulations, and to “promote convenient and compliant trade.” That’s according to a CNBC translation of the Chinese.

Americans are obviously desperate and care about face above all else, so they're going to grab onto anything that can help them cope, but if you just take a step back and look at China's whole export control system, it started years ago under while Biden was in power and always applied globally, this is a long term national strategy that's well beyond what Trump can talk his way out of.

Hash out the deals? Xi and Trump should go into trade regulation details?

At best they can agree on some "good will" position and let technical people to do their work....but if the very next day US introduces new surprises like the last sudden ban on EDA software and even accuse China of breaking the just reached Geneva agreement (China says this is completely made up...and I tend to believe them), what's the point of another meeting between Xi and Trump? What is the value at Xi's eyes of meeting a guy that the next day acts in opposite way of his words of the day before?

I have some experience in negotiations among international businesses: if someone, supplier or customer does not matter, dares to do even a tiny part of what Trump does routinely, this someone is kicked out of the business circle: nobody will waste his time with him anymore.

Credibility is paramount in serious negotiations among peers. It is the base.

I understand US is THE superpower, US pretends to negotiate from a position of strength and so they allow themselves to be fickle and capricious and assume the other part will eat it....
I don't even understand what Trump's gain plan is to be honest. Lol

So this is just Chinese parts suppliers that gets export permits. Honestly it is already more lenient than I thought, so there is a next rung of escalation where China can block those parts as well and kill US industry for good

US military will have to figure something out, you don't get to talk about preparing for war with China and still expect China to help you do that.
But China officially has no problem with western automakers
Although China will now decide how many cars they get to make

Yeah, agree, that is what is happening.

They are trying to find a new normal to the US China relationship.

China will not stab their friends in the back. The Chinese have nothing against GM or Ford. Heck, the Ford CEO Mr Farley actually drives a Chinese car, and he loves it!

:D

That is the main point that the lying Liberal media will not talk about, although outlets like Faux News will vent about it once in a while.

The United States was unable to change the old normal between them and China to their liking, and the United States will be unable or fall short of changing the new normal to their liking.

That is why the US is being petty with various negative actions the past week. They have no other options.
