Just Trump things.

By the numbers: As of the end of May, China had an 8.8 net favorability rating, compared to -1.5 for the U.S., according to favorability data for last month provided exclusively to Axios by Morning Consult.

  • In January 2024, the U.S. rating was above 20 and China was in negative territory.

Lol okie. They will talk eventually.
Per US automakers magnets will run out eventually, so unless Trump wants entire US industries to shut down then yes, he will have to eventually comply with Chinese demands. It's the same as the tariff war, the only W America can expect is China accepting their surrender, because China can always make no demands, keep the chokehold in place and let US industries collapse no matter how high Trump is willing to jump.

They can always dig through landfills for old magnets.

There was a story recently on the cleanup of the recent Los Angeles fires. Apparently how some were saying how to cut reliance on China for rare earths was to recycle it which is easier said than done. So many Teslas were destroyed in the fire where you think it would be a gold mine of rare earths but they're basically hazardous materials where recycling and refining them again is too expensive so all they did in the cleanup was separate those components with rare earths in them and then they just dumped it in a special facility in Utah like what they do with spent nuclear fuel for that kind of hazardous waste. They got upset when China stopped recycling their plastic waste...

On the front news it’s auto makers needing magnets.

in the back it could be their defence contractors that are running short of big magnets. Hence their desperation for talks
