This just about sums it up.

“The Trump administration has appeared confounded by Beijing’s entirely anticipable reaction to Trump’s tariff escalation,” added Mr. Hass, who met with officials and analysts in China this month as Mr. Trump escalated the tariffs. “China’s leaders do not view tit-for-tat tariffs as an isolated trade issue that lends itself to a negotiated resolution.”

Mr. Xi would be reluctant to speak with Mr. Trump unless teams from the two nations first laid a foundation for top-level discussions. That would help ensure the outcome of a conversation is predictable, which is how diplomacy traditionally works.

Chinese suppliers generally earn low profit margin. My ex-employer, a company owned by Canadian, export from Shenzhen, earned 7% profit by creative accounting to minimise paying tax in China, then they sold upto 100% profit to other US retailers. The final retail price was 300% to 400% of the export price from China.

Chinese owned China factories generally only made around 10-15% proft due to local competition and price pressure from foreign buyers/merchandisers who deal direct with the factories on behalf of the importers.

Therefore if you cut off the middlemen in US, go direct to China to do your own sourcing, the cost saving is huge.

Yeah, exactly.

There is a big difference between B2B and B2C.

It is entirely different business.

This trade war means China loses most of the B2B but does not lose much B2C because Walmart did most of that.

The people who write articles for the English language press do not understand that, and the Trump cabinet is totally ignorant of that basic fact too, since they are rich and spoiled.

They boast so much about the American consumer the Trump inner circle. So their actions hurt Walmart more than the Chinese factory.

Then with unbeatable cost and pricing, the Chinese factory will find other customers elsewhere.

China had enough. This is over. A clean divorce.

Or so I thought.

What does it feel like to be on the receiving end when someone confidently claims you’ve been calling them—when you know you haven’t?

It’s enough to make you question your own sanity.

Yeah, exactly.

President Trump is talking to his imaginary friend.

That is kind of obvious.

It is very disturbing to some of us who like Trump.

Please stop. Hope it stops. Please stop, bigly!

Help us god!

:oops::rolleyes:

Navarro isn't necessarily an idiot, he's just born in the wrong decade.

I doubt any serious policy analyst over the age of 60 bothers to do actual research anymore. So Trump's Team's utter ignorance on China's economy is hardly a surprise

No, he's definitely an idiot. Doesn't even try to hide it either.

“The message is that tariffs are tax cuts, tariffs are jobs, tariffs for national security, tariffs are great for America, tariffs will make America great again,” the White House senior counselor for trade and manufacturing declared on Fox News Sunday. The Orwellian assertion, which runs counter to what

has said about tariffs' impact on the American consumer and economy, was met with wholesale criticism that spanned the political spectrum.

In addition, the top White House aide and recently released convict claimed that the president’s other promised tariffs — which will be unleashed on April 2, what Trump is touting as “Liberation Day” — could bring in as much as $6 trillion over the next decade. Trump, meanwhile, has reportedly urged his White House team to be even more aggressive during this trade war as he ponders a universal tariff.

President Trump is talking to his imaginary friend.

That is kind of obvious.

This is the situation.

Here we have a man, mister Trump, who according to reports, thought that God made him indestructible because he just managed to escape an assassination attempt.

God chose him.

Now, as of today, he cannot get a mere mortal to make a phone call, to save political ass.

What a turnaround. They will not be able to process that. Not anytime soon.

As far as the Chinese are concerned, who cares.

Get bent.

:p

But we are capable of so much more.

Our technologies permit us to manipulate time and space. They leave distance annihilated, cause things to grow, and improve productivity.

As Vice President Vance said in a recent speech, the tradition of American innovation has been one of increasing the capacities of America’s workers, of extending human ability so that more people can do more, and, more meaningful work. But unrestricted immigration, and reliance on cheap labor both domestically and offshore, has been a substitute for improving productivity with technology.

We can build in new ways that let us do more with less, or we can borrow from the future. We have chosen to borrow from the future again and again. Our choice as a civilization is technology or debt. And we have chosen debt.
It is the choices of individuals that will make the new American Golden Age possible: the choice of individuals to master the sclerosis of the state, and the choice of individuals to craft new technologies and give themselves to scientific discoveries that will bend time and space, make more with less, and drive us further into the endless frontier.
These people appear to be primitive...
