The MAGA solution is just pay American workers more so they can afford the high prices. And that will also increase prices. It’s a never ending cycle that keeps raising costs. And no one in the world is going to buy the American product because it costs so much more. Right now MAGA America will simply see the high numbers as showing how rich Americans are.. but everything cost so much more than everyone else so they’re really not that rich?
"Juche with American characteristics."

China will also purposefully frustrate US efforts at moving production back to US.

Already started with small rare earth bans here and there. The more US commits to that strategy, the bigger the bans. Bigger rare earth mineral bans, machinery eauipment bans, more visa restrictions for technical personnel, more IP disputes, more financial sabotage to tank their stock market and affect economic and investment environment etc

They can buy machinery from other countries but expect to pay at least x3 more. And then have to navigate through raw materials mined/refined by China. And I haven't even mentioned back-handed cooperation with S.Korea, Germany and Japan to slow down US reindustrialization.

Economic and trade matters are too complicated for Trump's small mind to comprehend what's happening.
Classic mistake by Americans, thinking that they are all alone in the world and can do whatever they want
exactly. Tungsten, Ga, Ge and rare earth restrictions were just the start with more in reserve.

Secondary sanctions on machinery manufacturers i.e. for PCBs, motors, batteries, etc would cripple their reindustrialization efforts, because Chinese secondary sanctions would present everyone with a choice: lose 1 market, or lose the bottom from your business entirely. There is such a thing as an irreplaceable supplier.

No wonder Vietnam kneeled almost immediately to Trump's demands. 30% of their GDP is reliant on exports to the US.

I wouldn't blame them. If Bush had thrown a tantrum in 2006, when exports to the U.S. made up 20% of China's GDP, Hu Jintao would have likely been on the next flight to Washington, ready to offer concessions.

The great American MAGA stupidity doesn’t see how they can bring back the garment industry to the US but they will be the most expensive version of that product in the world. It doesn’t stop anyone in the world from making them cheaper. Textiles are one of those things where the US can make many times more the cost over for an import and it’ll still be cheaper than the American one.

US capitalism has priced itself out of competition. Yeah they can force Americans to buy American.
Let's not underestimate the power of marketing and dumb people who will buy just because of a brand. A duct taped banana still sold millions and some Chinese Peasant bought and ate it.

2006 was also a different time, in which the US have a stronger military relative to the PLA. It was not clear that China's industrial complex would be able to outproduce the USA.

Remember what Mao said, foreign policy is formed out of the barrel of a gun.
