Yes, Canada, you're a hypocrite accusing China of not following the rule of law when you take orders from Trump who doesn't follow the rule of law. SNC Lavalin anyone? At least they're not in denial anymore that this has nothing to do with the arrest and extradition of a Huawei executive for the US. But of course because they can't admit this was their fault, they bring up the Hong Kong protests that they're for not even mentioning the irony that the protests are about what Canada did arresting a Chinese citizen for politics and extraditing her for the US. Then they suggest China's reputation is going to be harmed in the eyes of Canada's allies because of this. Oh do they mean the reputation that has always been attacked by them? They didn't bother to think of the ramifications in the first place. They just thought the US was going to protect them.

Its great, that ex-ambassador is speaking so much BS is unbelievable. He even said the Chinese is praticing hostage diplomacy! Oh the irony!

Also, noticed there was no one there to offer a counter-view and contest the claim! Talk about an echo chamber. Echo chamber.

If that were true, he wouldn't be trying to make a deal and that certainly wouldn't be 50% of what he talks about all day.

He thinks he's clever by not showing his hand or saying the opposite of what he wants but he's so deranged by age he doesn't know how obvious his tactics are. He probably just read it in "his" book that one should play down the importance of a deal to prevent one's opponent from using it against one as leverage and immediately started chuckling and rubbing his hands together like he found some new negotiating secret technique. In reality, trying to get talks started by saying he doesn't care for a deal and he's happy to not have a deal is not interpreted by anyone has having a strong hand; it's a sign of how feeble a level his mind operates on.

It really doesn't past the logic test! If Tariffics are so good for the US, and hurting China so much, as claimed by Trump.

Then the logical conclusion is more tariffics immediately. Why wait till you meet Xi?

Says roughly 50% won't switch, roughly 1/3 would consider the Ark OS. Great news, I believe, considering no one knows what's in it.
Actually, it says 40% are skeptical about switching, not 50% (50% is another unrelated statistic). Sample size was 700 individuals. Also, the poll was almost 87.7% Malaysian, 7.7% Southeast Asian, 4.6 % Chinese; I was worried that the majority data might have been from China. So if Ark can capture a third of foreign Asian markets right off the bat, that's a really impressive start and taking a huge chunk away from Google. I'm expecting a single digit start in the EU. In both Asia and Europe, if Ark is really as impressive as Huawei says and the user interface is very similar to Android, its popularity should balloon by word-of-mouth. That's how Huawei grew in the first place.

Not sure about this, look at both the gulf wars, Panama, Grenada. "Mission accomplish". Etc. All very popular with the voting public, particularly the MAGA kind!

Pretty sure about it.

Unlike many Chinese kids whose brain has been washed hollow by Western media either because their English worship leads them to believe everything written in English is truth, or because they identify themselves with the West ideologically, a lot of Yankees do have the ability to distinguish "police action" from "war".

If Trump chose to use military invasion to Venezuela as a platform for his 2020 re-election, he would lose because Americans know Russia and China are allies of Maduro's Venezuela, therefore, Trump's platform would potentially cause a war between the US and Russia / China or Russia + China. The price would be too high for them. If Trump chose to use military invasion to Haiti as a platform for his 2020 re-election, he probably could win because Americans know Haiti is an international orphan, this thus would be a police action and the US could win easily. If Trump chose to use military intervention in Syria as a platform for his 2020 re-election, he would lose because people know there is a strong Russian presence there, thus electing him would probably mean electing WW3. Everyone loves easy win, and the Yankees are no exception.

Any US politician advocating military confrontation against Russia, or China, or Iran, or NK, will have no chance to win a presidential election. But, if he advocates to weaponize US economic power against any country he doesn't like, people won't care too much, and he would win because many Americans believe the US still holds a solid economic edge over anyone in the world, thus can win easily.

It is a shame that they can't make HK give asylum to Assange. I bet the US would change their tune about the extradition policy quick snap.
They should give money to Kim Dotcom so he could live in Hong Kong (the guy from mega.nz).

Commentary: Using Huawei 5G technology means more than quicker communication

Supported by the Huawei technology, Vodafone Espana commercialized the first 5G mobile services in Spain on Saturday.

The ultra-fast and low-latency 5G network is the infrastructure that can make a huge difference. About half of the population in 15 major Spanish cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville are initially involved, which makes the country among the first that rolled out 5G services in Europe.

Vodafone Espana's embracing of the Huawei 5G technology means not only communication 10 times faster in Spain, but also a step closer to a future brimming with excitements like autonomous driving, telemedicine and virtual reality in everyday life.

Another thing that is certain is that the United States' pressuring of its European allies to join itself to block the global 5G technology leader Huawei from the 5G network market at their expense will not work.

As Washington has failed to prove that the Chinese telecom giant makes backdoors to enable spying on any users, the U.S. bullyism under a security pretext harms its credibility.

In dealing with its business rivals, as the world's largest economy, the United States' pursuit of its America First policy backed by politicized accusations has definitely constituted a disruption to global free trade and economy.

European countries like Germany, Italy and the Netherlands have their own standards for security, which are certainly not like the American one which led to the loose licensing of Boeing 737 Max. In response to the U.S. pressure, many have made this clear and are expected not to exclude any bidder from their 5G projects for prejudice, smear, or groundless doubts.

For example, carriers supported by Huawei are rolling out their 5G services in Britain and Switzerland. For them, choosing Huawei is but a market-oriented decision based partly on lower costs and a reliable longtime partnership. It is a fact worth mentioning that Huawei has been in cooperation with most of the major mobile operators across Europe.

The European attitude towards Huawei also represents a widening gap between the two sides of the Atlantic, with an openness to safeguarding multilateralism and cooperation.

This stands in stark contrast to the U.S. unilateralism and protectionism, and promises brighter economic prospects with new business models and other innovative ideas generated by the quicker and advanced 5G network.

Spain is not the first in Europe to use Huawei technology, and is surely not the last one.

Huawei’s Richard Yu may have the toughest job in the tech world - taking on Apple without Android

  • Yu’s career success in Europe earned him a place on the company board, the small 17-person circle that has the final say on Huawei’s entire business
  • Despite a stellar career, Yu’s off-the-cuff remarks have also brought him some trouble over the years
I've now read it, but need to go so just the last paragraph here:
Only time will tell if the ever-ebullient Yu will be able to maintain his optimism about Huawei in the months ahead amid the swirling tech storm. One thing is certain though, he now faces his biggest challenge - taking on Apple and Samsung without Android.

An update of the canadian situation. I hope i have done the link correctly, please bear with me guys, I'm not tech minded at all, just an old guy trying to live in the modern world.

About 15min in, one of the commentators actually admitted that "we got played by the Americans"! Thats quite a statement.
And about 17 minutes in, another comentator said "when you paint yourself in a corner, you have got to step on the paint to get out"! Lol. Quite revealing really.
