Hmm...let's hope they don't track five inbound objects from the outer solar system inbound towards Hawaii!

Better keep some of that spare ordinance and equipment close to the Missouri...just in case, LOL!

It was a good movie though...a lot of good navy humor that any navy vet, or navy brat would appreciate.

As always, Popeye, GREAT PICS!

Re: Rimpac 2012!!

What sort of reaction is the PLA(N) having to not being invited to RIMPAC as a participant or even an observer?

Sort of a cold war mentality with the Soviets being replaced by China.

Who knows? China may have been invited and declined. None of us know for sure. By the way RIMPC has been going on since 1971.

These exercises have been ongoing with allied nation for over 40 years. It has turned into a very big, traditional thing where a lot of very good operational experience is gained, and a whole lot of good will and friendship is generated between the particpating allied nations.

Can't speak to China being invited or not. Certainly for the vast majority of the years they would have been viewed as a nation unfriendly to these nation throughout the cold war, and not having the equipment (until very recent years) to have contributed in any case. Now thoguh there is still significant angst and mistrust, perhaps things will improve. But clearly that angst will have to settle out before the level of operational activity and procedures are revealed to a nation outside of those the US would expect to look to for being part of any coalition in the PAcific, and who would look to the US to follow through on various treaty agreements in the event of any trouble.

Perhaps over the years, as long as we can all see a way to resolving the TAiwan issues and financial challenges we face peacefully and jointly, the trust will be developed on both sides.

Cetainly not intentionally mean to be a slight though...just has histroically not included them for all of those decades.

Re: Rimpac 2012!!

Located between the booming continents, the Pacific Ocean is a point of strategic importance for France. Thanks to the permanent presence of a warship, France affirms its sovereignty. Different jurisdictions are indeed located in the heart of the ocean: the French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, Clipperton... The Prairial, usually based in Polynesia, joined the U.S. base at Pearl Harbor which hosts the exercise.
