PHILLPINES SEA (June 14, 2023) – The Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Manchester (LCS 14) transits the Philippines Sea during Exercise Pacific Griffin 2023. Pacific Griffin 2023 is the fourth iteration of the biennial maritime exercise between the U.S. and Republic of Singapore. Conducted in the waters near Guam, the two navies enhance combined maritime proficiency while strengthening relationships during two weeks of dynamic training evolutions ashore and at sea. Littoral Combat Ships are fast, optimally manned, mission-tailored surface combatants that operate in near-shore and open-ocean environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats. Manchester, part of Destroyer Squadron 7, is on a rotational deployment operating in the U.S. 7TH Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serve as a ready-response force in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region. PACIFIC OCEAN (July 27, 2023) Sailors assigned to the amphibious transport dock ship USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Expeditionary Support Unit 1 launch the Vehicle Advanced Demonstrator for Emergency Recovery, or VADR, during Underway Recovery Test (URT) 10, July 27, 2023. VADR is a replica of the crew module that will be used during Artemis II. BALTIC SEA (July 7, 2023) An MK 45 is fired on the fo’c’sle of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) during a live fire excersise with the German Navy Brandenburg-class frigate Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (F-218) as part of Standing NATO Maritime Group-1 operations in the Baltic Sea, July 7, 2023. Roosevelt is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe area of operations, employed by the U.S. Sixth Fleet to defend U.S., allied and partner interests. JAVA SEA (July 22, 2023) The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and Ticonderoga-class-guided missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54) get in formation with Ticonderoga-class-guided missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls (CG 62) during Talisman Sabre 23 in the Java Sea, July 22.
